I keep reading and hearing that aiken s.c. is the best place (at least school wise) for autistic children. We are looking into moving there. What Ican tell you is if you have an autistic child stay out of Ohio!

Default Autism Schools in Arizona

We have had great success in the Gilbert School district. We did a lot of research and moved from Mesa in 2005. We were not pleased with Mesa at all! They botched up her our daughter's testing twice and said nothing was wrong. In meetings they would always remind us that they would only provide services if it were for something that was interfering with academics. They also had absolutely nothing for high functioning kids. This pathetic when you consider that Mesa is by far the largest district in the entire state. Please feel free to contact me directly.

They assigned him a para who has experience with autistic children, He gets OT and Speech by qualified specialist who are great with him and his teacher and para stay in constant contact with me. I never feel left out at his IEPs (individual education plan) and my questions are always answered. They find alternatives due to his hypersensitivity (he has major outbursts when using pencils),when ever a problem arises they always go the extra mile to find a way to work with him. Also this school has really made a great effort with much succes with the "regular" students, my son has never been ostracized by the other students in fact it's quite the opposite it doesn't matter if it's at school, in the grocery store, or out to eat students of all ages come up to us to say "hi" to my son and introduce themselves to us.

Unhappy I am a little upset myself....

We just moved to Sierra Vista, AZ from Kalamazoo, MI and we have had trouble getting assistance for our mildly autistic child from the public school. I had to go down to the school and complain before they would even aknowledge that he was autistic. This happened despite the fact that his old school district sent paperwork detailing all the tests and services he had recieved since begining preschool four years prior to our move. I have also found out that other children have begun to tease him because he has a "disease".

I saw on the news today that they are opening a school for children with autism in Tucson. I am debating the pros and cons of placing him in a school over an hour away from where we currently reside.

If you are still looking, Gilbert school district has a wonderful program, and the Florence Unified School District is up and coming in that department. I have to admitt I work in the FUSD Autism program, but they are putting much time and effort into training and designing their program to make it family friendly, and build that community network for parents. I wish you the best of luck, and I know we would be happy to welcome a new family.

Reading everyones post has made me wonder about my move to sierra vista az in a different way. I am a service provider for children with Autism and in my search have realized southern arizona does not have a lot of agencies set up to help and serve those with autism. I am looking forward to moving and hoping to get right into working with children with autism using applied behavior analysis and see this may be harder than I thought in the area.

What schools are in Sierra Vista for children with autism? Or program within school districts set up to provide their needs to be successful?

Chexk out this websiteAGE OF AUTISMArizona just recently passed a law that mandates insurance companies cover some autism treatments,it kicks in in 2009 and will provide funding for lots of autism related service jobs.
unless they change the vaccine schedule and really remove mercury from vaccines the autism rate is going to go even higher!!!!!!!!!!!

I seriously doubt that this would be the place for education of any kind. From being a teacher in an "excelling" school, I'm not impressed.

I am very impressed by this website AGE OF AUTISM
DO you have a child with autism? I think that makes a big difference in how you view things.
My child was damaged by his childhood vaccines and we have a lawsuit pending in vaccine injury court. Maybe that is why I like this website because they report on subjects autism related that others are afraid to touch because they are afraid of Pharma or government bullies.
