Someone jsut said they can rent a great room for 1,000.

You couldn't even buy a chair for less than 1,000 in San Francisco.

I feel it's a bunch of factors, including climate/location, taxes, but most important is the sheer number of businesses, especially specialized ones that pay high salaries, i.e. IT, biotechnology, medical, etc., that one location has over the other.

Supply and demand.

In addition, Arizona encourages growth and has extensive land that is available for development.

Coastal California cities don't have a lot of land left that can be developed. The coastal land that remains available for development is very expensive due to high demand, and building on that land requires lots of permits, fees, studies, requirements, etc. before a building permit is issued. Plus, neighborhoods fight development like crazy there. Oh, I forgot to mention law suits to stop the development.

The process and price is somewhat more reasonable in inland California cities.

All the liberal states have high costs of living because they are quick to give taxpayer money to fund all types of welfare programs for legal and illegals. The problem with liberalism is eventually you run out of other peoples money to spend so you have to continue to tax the working class and eventually they leave the state.

Taxpayers Fleeing Democrat-Run States for Republican Ones

Top 5 loser states for Democrat governors in 2013:

· New York (114,929 people with $5.7 billion in AGI)

· Illinois (68,943 people with $3.8 billion in AGI)

· California (47,458 people with 3.8 billion in AGI)

· Connecticut (14,453 people with $1.8 billion in AGI)

· Massachusetts (11,915 people with $1 billion in AGI)

Top 5 winner states for Republican governors in 2013:

· Texas (152,912 people with $6 billion in AGI)

· Florida (74,094 people with 8.3 billion in AGI)

· South Carolina (29,176 people with 1.6 billion in AGI)

· North Carolina (26,207 people with $1.5 billion in AGI)

· Arizona (16,549 people with $1.5 billion in AGI)

In 2013, more than 200,000 people on net fled states with Democrat governors for ones run by Republicans, according to an analysis of newly released IRS data by Americans for Tax Reform.
"People move away from high tax states to low tax states. Every tax refugee is sending a powerful message to politicians," said ATR President Grover Norquist. "They are voting with their feet. Leaders in Texas and Florida are listening. New York and California are not."
That year, Democrat-run states lost a net 226,763 taxpayers, bringing with them nearly $15.7 billion in adjusted gross income (AGI). That same year, states with Republican governors gained nearly 220,000 new taxpayers, who brought more than $14.1 billion in AGI with them.

I feel like this is so obvious.

If California was Republican it would be cheaper I think, but still more expensive than here. And we all know why that would be the case.

Sure that *Americans for Tax Reform* find and toture the numbers to fit them. Also, what does this have to do with the OP's question about why California is more expensive than Arizona?
You could also argue to include both your and the OP's perspective: California (along with other liberal states) are net-payers of federal taxes whereas conservative states including Arizona are net-moochers of federal tax dollars. That's why cost of living is cheaper here than in California and all the tax-moochers are fleeing the net-payer states for net-moocher states like Arizona. Welcome to Moochizona my friend! Must be like paradise for you where you get your life-style subsidized by your fellow taxpayers from across the nation.

The facts speak for themselves, these are IRS statistics. and the tax burden has a direct relation to the cost of living in a specific city or state

Progressives seem to lack one thing in their narrative. Common sense.

I am not going to waste my time arguing my point, as it is useless. I know what I know from personal experience and observations and suffice it to say that the progressive 'mindview' breeds a culture of dependence on .gov handouts. Years later after one realizes that they have worn it out, or it is not enough, they go to work for McDonald's because that is all they can get and then complain because it is not a living wage.

Calif by the coast: lots of people willing to spend "stupid money" to live there; mix that in with little land and, prices go batcrap crazy. Needles Calif; it's very cheap to live there cause it's on the other side of the state from LA.
