My doctor has told me to drink a glass of red wine a day for my health, cholesterol. sigh. But, I don't drink and am tired of buying wine that the store recommends to me that is sweet and good.

Do any of you know of a good red wine that tastes sweet? I'm at my wits end.

Aiangel, taste is so subjective, isn't it? What wines have you tried that you didn't like?

Have you tasted Ruby Port? That is quite sweet, and is served as a dessert wine.

Oh gosh, I can't remember all the names. Sigh, I am just not a drinker, and the names have left me. But, I don't remember this one, so will try it. Are dessert wines sweeter than others? I am a complete novice when it comes to anything with alcohol in it.

Yes, dessert wines are very sweet

Well, and Port is not a brand, it's a style....Umm I think the Christian Brothers and several other brands have it. At the store just ask for dessert wines.

Another possibility for an inexpensive but good Merlot wine would be by Charles Shaw. Trader Joe's always has it. In my own opinion, Merlot is about the sweetest and most mellow of the red wines. But it's not a dessert wine.

So....the Ruby Ports will be sweeter, but the alcohol content is a bit higher than regular red table wine, which would be the Merlot variety.

Heh....since you apparently don't regularly have wine, drink this wine relatively soon before turning in for the night

*wanders off to pour a wee glass of Merlot...*

I just remembered this: if you try the Merlot, also have some chocolate with it! Seriously That is, if you like chocolate.

The same taste buds which go into action for your chocolate enjoyment, also work on the red wine in the same way. And the two together? Positively synergistic...in a most enjoyable way.

My disclaimer is that l learned all this stuff when living in the wine country in Sonoma County, CA. That's in the north of CA

Talking Am I not a Fount of information tonight? Yikes.

Forgot to say, and this is important. Do Not Refrigerate the wine!!!! And after you open a new bottle, decork it, pour the glass and wait about 10 minutes...the interaction with the air mellows and brings out good flavours. Truly

This will make "the medicine go down..."

Oooooooo, a bit envious here: "home made fudge" Oh yes, this will work perfectly well

All I could find to go with my wee glass of merlot were some chocolate chips but they are
very good ones...

Is that why the wine is always so bitter? I put it in the fridge and don't let it sit 10 minutes? Oh to think I have been pouring perfectly good wine down the drain simply because I didn't have any instructions on how to properly use it? DUH to ME....
seriously, why do they sell wine coolers if you are not supposed to put them in there?
