Yesterday, we had a visit from friends and we happened to have two new beverages that were super duper good.
We went to lunch at a Scottish Pub, and tried a beer called Drafty Kilt Scottish Ale. It’s a dark beer...almost chocolatey. Really good.
Then our friend had brought a bottle of Johnnie Walker 18. It’s in a gold package. I have no clue how it’s different from Black or Blue, but it was delicious, for about $85.
Went to a late brunch with friends, had a glass of pinto grigio. Stopped at the neighborhood bar on the way home and had a vodka soda.
Back home, about to pour me another glass of pinot grigio.
We had a new-to-us gin last week; 6 o'clock Gin. Very good alternate to Tangueray or Bombay Sapphire. The cool part is that they have a pre-mixed gin and tonic in a can that is also very good. They used a good quality tonic that brings out the nuances of the gin. If you can find it, try it!
Bought a fifth of James E Pepper 1776 Rye last night along with a bottle of Old Overholt Bottled in Bond.
The Pepper is a good rye for the price point. It's got a good rye kick with a little mint and a fruity finish.
I've had the Old Overholt before. It's a bit rough, but I enjoy it because of its long heritage.
I'm trying to get better at tasting whiskey. I'm ok at picking out the nose and the finish, but I'm poor at mouthfeel and picking out the flavors at the start.
