Hi,

Only place I found it still playing is APTN, (Aboriginal people's television network.) Which is from Canada.

I just checked yesterday and the website says, "full videos" but I didn't find any. They play another show called, "North of 60" also in reruns.

According to wiki the series ended in 97. North of 60 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am a fan of APTN, just wish I could 'really' watch full episodes other than the news! Word of warning though, if you watch the news it may be a little suprising to hear about half of the newscaster use the British nasal-tv-speak.

Jen
p.s. the link here will show clips of current shows, inlcuding a clip of Northern Exposure from the later seasons APTN.ca - Full Episodes + Videos (0.2)

No.. I don't think any reality show about Eskimo's would go over well with the Natives. Not from what I have learned living among them and with them. Most of their time is spent indoors. When hunting; huge distances are traveled, as in hundreds of miles across vast stretches of the tundra.. They don't like to be asked questions..that was one of the very first things I noticed; HOW COME ?!! is always the response no matter which village. Night time is for bingo ! And there's just as many men and captains in there as the women. Its a time to get out and meet people - its something different to do... The only thing. Most homes host "games" of some sort in the evening. These people are professional scrabble players w/ high scores in the 400's and up are the norm. They know all the tricks. Yahtzee games that last the entire weekend non -stop. Snerts and kamoke are also marathon games with men & women playing the entire weekend. Aside from going to the post office and to the Native store.. There's nothing else going on. (I'm speaking of all the smaller villages). These small villages are exceptionally quiet. So I don't see where or what the attraction would be for people to watch these people in their normal daily activities. There is nothing going on! Occasionally during different seasons of the year; Certain animals are hunted or fished @ certain times of the year.

I just don't see any interest or how the natives would receive any compensation for ???what ?? living a laid back lifestyle? No one is in any rush. and quite frankly - They just don't trust white people from the all the many previous incidents their history documents... and I for one don't blame them one bit!

I'm not trying to start any flame war.. I am only expressing my honest opinion. That's all!

In certain ways, it was authentic, though. It was pretty well researched, and based very loosely on the town of Talkeetna. True, it wasn't filmed in Alaska, but it really did do a good job of capturing something about what life was really like there (Talkeetna).

What you say is true, the Aleut story is but a footnote, however, there is much more to the story than ..a few hundred Aleuts simply being moved.
Did you know all healthy adult men were herded onto barges during the fur seal harvest every year during the war. They were forced to leave their sick women and children during the harshest weather when they were needed most, barged at gunpoint by our soldiers to the Aleutions until they had harvested all the furs the government wanted (lots of money for the war effort selling sea otter fur to China) and then barged back to the damp southeast camps full of TB. If they refused they were told they would never be taken back home.
After 4 long years when the remnants finally returned home it was to discover our soldiers had destroyed, burned, and ransacked every villiage, down to every home, piece of furniture, their beautiful churches, icons, boats, tools - everything. Centuries of artifacts and precious keepsakes gone. The families were simply dumped back on their islands to scratch out shelter from the scraps left of their villiages and begin to rebuild. It was not until the late 80's the feds finally apologized and replaced the Russian Orthodox church they'd burned on Prince George.
Yes, it's much more than a footnote to them.

Well the Scorched earth policy was to not leave anything of value for the enemy (Japanese) to use. That happened in Russia and other places, it has been a standard military doctrine for Centuries. Sadly the Aleuts were a victim of that military policy, and it will be done again in history, hopefully not here!.

I knew the Aleuts harvested the seals, but I don't recall anytime it was at gun point, that was a source of money for them and they got paid for it. Please tell me where I can find your version. I am pretty good on Alaskan History, and may have missed that.

But like I said, the world was at war and there were a lot of atrocities all over the world. More US soldiers were killed/wounded in the Aleutians battles with the Japanese than Aleuts were put in distress at the time! Nobody won, except the Japanese clearly lost the battle and then the war.
