I'm looking for a coastal town to call my home. I LOVE the sea. My parents went to Alaska on vacation and said nothing compares to its beauty.

I'd like a town without too much tourism and I will most likely be looking for work at a hospital. I'm 35 and ready for a new beginning. Thanks so much.

Well. Kodiak, Sitka, Juneau, Petersburg and Homer might fit the bill. Expect grey skies and much rain. Tourists are common in summer in those towns, but only a few months a year.

Other towns may have such inclement climates that you'd prefer to be elsewhere, and soon! Be sure to do your homework before you pack and go.

You might try the Alaska Nurses Association for a start. They'd know ever so much more than I. Keep in touch, and follow your dream. It might turn into a nightmare, it might be heaven. Won't know until you try.

We need medical folks up here, so keep in touch, and keep trying. I wish you luck.

Sitka allows only one cruise ship in port at a time, so it's likely to be the most tourist free city on the water. I believe there is a hospital there too.

Thanks for the information. Nursing is just what I have in mind for the future. I currently live in California, however, I want a more simple life, at least in regards to the pace, plastic surgery emphasis and materialism southern California can be known for among the many beautiful and positive things California has to offer. I'll check out the Alaska Nurses Assoc.

Homer doesn't get cruise ships...just alot of tourists by road access. But it is a nice spot. Coming from Cali...Kodiak might be a little extreme right off the git go. Youd be a long way off on an island. But you might like the senery.
