My ragdoll talks if she can't find me in the house, but, she's a bit strange like that She also "answers" me if I ask her something - the trick seems to be that I need to address her by name, and she will always follow up with a meow, haha.

Oh man, one of my cats likes to run in front of me and stop in her tracks (nearly taking me out), and then she complains about me tripping over her. At least that's what I think she's doing.

Maine Coon cats are the largest breed. Yes other breeds have a few large examples but it's not the norm.

Maine Coon's are often refferred too as "little dogs".

IMHO the breed is starting to be watered down a little thanks to the show circuit. (Just look at what they did to the German Shepherd. )

I can see a clear distinction between "old stock" and "new stock". Most of the breeders in New England have old breed stock.

Thanks for all the info, I've looked at the maine coon and the ragdoll and both seem great I still have to do a little more research talk to my Vet and stuff and the long hair is a little intimidating just being able to maintain it. Thanks for the heads up of the heart problems I know a little about from being a nurse but I still have to do a little more reseach. I was also looking on something called a savanah. Anyone heard anything good or bad about them? I've checked out a couple websites but it seems like they were all breeders, I think I might have to find a website thats just informational and not trying to sell thier cats.

I've owned a maine coon in the past, as well as my current ragdoll - honestly, I spent 10 minutes a week using a furminator on both, and it keeps their fur nicely in check. Not a whole lot of maintenance, surprisingly.

I think Savanahs seem like cats with a great personality, but they require a lot of special food which can not be bought in a pet store. They need raw food. Plus I've heard they are super expensive, being a rather new breed.

Ditto - People look at my fur bucket and think I spend half my life grooming, but our short hair is actually more maintenance and sheds worse!

You should do research about the breed you will consider indeed, but they all come with some health condition problem, it doesn't necessarily mean that they'll get it, you just have to be aware. I think it's the same thing with dogs.
I was thinking more about shelters and rescues when I talked about any and everything getting labeled as a Maine Coon. Of course if you got one from a reputable breeder it wouldn't be a concern.

I didn't mean to give the impression that I don't like Maine Coons. I love them! But I do think it's important for the prospective owner to be aware of health problems. And I work for veterinary cardiologists, so that tends to make me hyper-aware of the heart problems of certain breeds. Same with dogs.

Correct. My kitten is still only 18-19lbs and has roughly 1.5 years of growth left. His father, and uncle were pushing 28lbs.

The big dummy broke his foot today. Got spooked by the painters and jumped off the 8' high deck.

Now I have to build a ramp for my bed.
