Shelly likes it straight from the fridge. In fact, when we had that beastly heat wave last week, that was the ONLY way she'd eat. Room temperature was too warm for her (we don't have A/C).

I am pretty sure that my cats would eat it straight out of the refridge if I gave it to them. But, on those rare occasions when it was refrigerated, I nuke it for 7 secs on high-just enough to take the chill out of it but not to make it too hot.

I take it out of the fridge a couple of hours before mealtime, so it warms to room temp on its own. The times I have forgotten to do this, I nuke it for 10 seconds then stir it up so it's evenly warmed.

But I have also put a cover on the can, put it away in a cabinet, and fed it the next day with no problems at all.

It would make good sense to heat up the the cat food before serving it to the cat because most meat tastes better when it's been heated up. The heat has a way of bringing out the flavor in most meats. I know that I don't like leftover cold hamburgers or leftover cold chicken.

In the wild, almost all predators instinctfully prefer meat that tastes fresh and the blood is still warm. That's why it would makes sense to heat up the cat food.

I bet a freshly killed and still warm water wildebeest or buffalo tastes so much better and flavorful to a pride of lions than a wildebeast or water buffalo that's been dead for a couple of days.

I am baby sitting a cat for a woman in my building that had to have part of her leg amputated because of diabetes. I refer myself as Grandma to all the animals in the building, mostly dogs and that is what I am to Buttercup. I love cats and dogs and see nothing "wrong" with that title. All someone has to say is there is Grandma and they get excited. But that is me. To those that pray please say a pray for Beverly to be able to come home to her Buttercup.

Please: Heat up very little. I keep her leftovers in fridge, and will only heat them up in a glass saucer for no more than 8 to 10 seconds in the microwave. Then touch it with a finger to make sure it is lightly warm, not hot. Don't assume that warmer is better. We're talking about an approx. 7 lb. kitty here, not an 800 lb. wildebeest!

Karen, sending up prayers that your friend has as full a recovery as possible and comes home to Buttercup.
