Description: Since 1995, the City of Yukon has presented this holiday display in three interconnecting parks—Yukon City Park, Freedom Trail Park, and Chisholm Trail Park. The displays are made up of over one million lights spread over 100 acres and include Christmas characters, music, and animation. There are also live performances, including Irv Wagner’s Trombone Quartet and a local dance troop. Special guests include Santa Claus, Jinglesauras, Frosty, and Rudolph.The lights appear the day after Thanksgiving and operate through Dec. Approximately 60,000 people attend. Hot chocolate is for sale nightly. In case of inclement weather, the lights may be closed. There is no admission fee, but donations are welcome.

Description: Usually held on the first weekend of Nov, this festival features authentic Lebanese cuisine. Falafel, talami, meat pies, baklava, and cabbage rolls are just a few of the items available. Guests can eat here or buy items to take home. A plate costs around $14. Sometimes coupons are available in the local newspaper. There is a small marketplace that sells jewelry and clothing during the event. The Oklahoma Gazette typically posts exact dates and times so start looking there in Oct.

Description: Since 2002, thousands of people have climbed aboard the Christmas Train. This special event held at the Oklahoma Railroad Museum will put you in the Christmas spirit. A rendition of Chris Van Allsburg’s, Polar Express, is read by special guests, carolers spread Christmas cheer through songs, and Santa visits. Hot chocolate is available. Christmas Train tickets are $12 and can only be purchased on-site. Parking is free in a small parking lot.

67. Cowboy Christmas Parade

Description: The Cowboy Christmas Parade is held on the first Sat of Dec each year. It travels from Exchange and Pennsylvania, down Exchange to Agnew, and south on Agnew to 15th Street. It starts off with 100 longhorn cattle, each weighing 1,500 pounds. There are approximately 60 entries in the parade ranging from antique cars, rodeo queens, beauty queens, dog groups, marching bands, drill teams, oxen, lamas, and Indian dancers. Approximately 2,000 spectators come down for the parade and Cowboy Santa, who passes out gifts to the boys and girls at the Opry. There is no charge to attend.

Description: In Oklahoma City, the downtown celebration of the holiday season features events, shopping, holiday lights. and free admission to museums on Sun. If you like to skate, visit the Devon Ice Rink, located in front of the Civic Center Music Hall. For $8, you can skate on the ice with others until you tire out. Description: Held the first weekend in Dec, at the Travel and Transportation Building at the State Fair Park, this is one of the largest model-train related shows west of the Mississippi. In 2008, over 18,000 people attended the two day event. There are 100,000 square feet of nothing but trains, 200 exhibitor booths, and 30,000 square feet for operating model trains for the public to watch. Over 100 vendors, including Custom Trax, Railroad Relics, and Whistle Stop Trains, display and sell their products. In 2008, more than 30 models train sets were given away. Train set manufacturers and distributors donate the train sets given away. Their goal in doing this is to promote interest in trains. Admission is $7.
