Description: Eighteen-hole Nonesuch has been lauded for preserving much of the wildlife habitat it was built amid in the woods along Scarborough’s Nonesuch River. The club was designed as something of a sanctuary, and it carefully tried to keep the living space of moose, deer, wild turkeys, and foxes intact, which has made the par 70 course unique and fun to play. The fairways and greens are bent grass and were constructed in the late 1990s to USGA specifications with the average golfer in mind. General manager Daniel Hourihan has been quoted as saying that what the course offers “is everything that’s good about golf.” There’s something to that—the place is very welcoming, from the greens to the 2,500-square-foot clubhouse. Tee times are required, can be reserved a week in advance, and can even be made on the course’s Web site.
