Description: Call this club, headquartered in the Free Flite Bicycles Shop, for friendly cycling guidance. With a $60 annual membership, you get a host of goodies: a discount in the Free Flite shop in the northwest metro area of Marietta, a point system for ride participation earning more discounts, newsletters, information about practice rides, and more. The club sponsors a Free Flite ride (with food) on the first and third Saturday morning of each month and weekly practice rides on Tuesday nights. Free Flite sells a full range of bikes as well as parts, clothing, shoes, and triathlon equipment.

Description: This cycling group, which began in 1970, is one of the largest clubs in the country, with a membership of more than 2,000 adults. The league sponsors regularly scheduled bike rides throughout the metro area; nonmembers are welcome. Pick up a copy of the organization’s monthly magazine, Freewheelin’, in local bike shops and bookstores. It’s full of safety tips, ride calendars, and directions to the best trails.

Description: The Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association sponsors organized rides every weekend during warm weather, roughly late April through summer. The monthly newsletter, Fat Tire Times, gives a calendar of these rides. Pick it up free at most metro area bike shops. SORBA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to off-road biking and trail maintenance. There are other chapters of the organization in Athens, Augusta, Ellijay, Gainesville, Macon, Roswell/Alpharetta, and Woodstock.

Description: This par 71 golf course owned and run by the city of Marietta is next to the Marietta Resort and Convention Center. Junior and group golf instruction is available, and the facility can host corporate events. A driving range, practice greens and bunkers, pro shop, and grill are on the premises. Weekday fees are $45, with a cart, for residents and nonresidents. Weekends and holidays are $54. Discounts are available for juniors (17 and under) and senior citizens (60 and over).

Description: This challenging, well-maintained course was designed by Ken Dye. It offers an athletic challenge as well as a tranquil setting of natural beauty. The facility has a golf shop and clubhouse. Ga Golf News voted Cobblestone No. 1 among Atlanta public courses for 1994, 1995, and 1997. Monday through Thursday, 9 holes are $35 with a cart and tax, and 18 holes are $60 with a cart and tax. Friday through Sunday, rates increase to $39 and $69 for 9 and 18 holes, respectively, with a cart. Several discount plans are available. Call for details. Cobblestone is about 25 minutes north of I-285 off I-75 North.

Description: A combination of beauty and challenge awaits you at this 18-hole course designed by Larry Nelson. Called a challenging executive course, it features sloping doglegs and rolling fairways that conceal fairway bunkers and traps. It has well-maintained Penn Links bent grass greens. A driving and practice range, a clubhouse, and a putting course are on the premises. Rates range from $29 to $35.

Description: This course has a championship-caliber layout that makes for a challenging round of play. Designed by Dick Wilson, the 18-hole, par 72 course had Bermuda grass fairways and greens until the past few years, when it was refurbished with bent grass. All fees include a cart and begin at $34 for weekdays and go up to $48on weekends for county residents. Mystery Valley is approximately 18 miles from Downtown Atlanta.

Description: Renovated in 2009 with championship Bermuda grass, Bobby Jones is an 18-hole course with a par of 71. The Bermuda grass greens and fairways are popular with intermediate golfers. Rates are $32 during the week, and $38 on the weekends including cart. This is one of the few in-town courses and is very popular among the locals who want to get in a quick round.
