While you probably know WV is home to the New River Gorge Bridge, it is also home to the highest Interstate bridge and highest bridge of its kind in the world in the Phil G McDonald Mem. Bridge which carries I64 over the Glade Creek Gorge just east of Beckley.

Its 700 feet high and 784 feet long and most people traveling on it don't give it a second notice.

I've always wondered why this bridge doesn't get the recognition as some others. It's pretty and scenic. A nice overlook similar to the New River Gorge or roadside pull off should be of order.

I just crossed this bridge twice over the weekend in my travels to Greenbrier County. I found myself wondering how high this bridge was because it seemed nearly as high as the New River Gorge Bridge on 119. Ironic I see this posted today.

I wish there was an overlook, but it's difficult with the Interstate standards for controlled access. But it's close enough to the Grandview exit that an access road could work. Plus, with Grandview and Little Beaver nearby, it could tie into the park system nicely.

The first time I went over the the New River Gorge Bridge, I didn't even know we were AT the New River. I guess I expected some type of truss overhead or something. Nope just a bridge with standard highway dividers! I could see how people would go over this bridge and not notice, though!

It really is spectacular. Is that portion before US 19 merges into the highway?

Depends on your definition of before. If you are driving South on I-77 then head East on I-64, then it's well after the US 19 four-lane. It's just after Exit 129A/B on I-64 E.

Okay, ... I rarely go East on I-64, but often go south on US 19 then south on I-77, so I'd miss that bridge then.
