Looks like there will be a move to lower the "carbon fee" before the next election.

The goal of the entire program was to increase prices so people would use less oil. Let the gas price increase stand for now, but it would be nice to lower the cost of propane that is used for heat in most rural areas. Poor people and rural always pay the price for urban environmentalists favorite fantasies.

I think we just need to vote the people out of office that voted for this.

No realistic alternative to petroleum for transportation....but raise prices so people use it less?

Incompetent policy-makers.

Actually it makes people (like me) reevaluate what a suitable mpg is for my next purchase. I bought a hybrid with 42 mpg combined over an ICE with 29 mpg combined. Purchase price about the same but will save $2,500 estimated over 10 years if prices remain at today’s level.

And that replaced my former vehicle with 22 mpg. Thus, for me, a highly effective law.
Bonus: less noise and air pollution.

Most Americans choose vehicles that are far, far too large and consume way too much fuel, because gas is so cheap here. Myself included.

My new vehicle has AWD, almost a full safety suite, is heavier than my old vehicle and has twice the mpg.

I smile a bit when the Trump trucks rumble by with their poor mpg.

Their NOT incompetent. That is the goal, to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 percent. That means a gas price NINE dollars a gallon. The plan was to do that slowly so the voting public would not notice until too late.

Inslee and theDemocrats can reduce transportation emissions by 20 percent tomorrow. 55 mph speed limit in rural areas, 45 on urban highways, and 25 in cities. The Europeans are doing it.

I rather drive 55 than pay NINE dollars for gas. But the Elites and the Democrats have plenty of money and like always want to save the planet on the backs of the poor.

Thats great until it's also $9 for a gallon of milk, loaf of bread in the store.
Europe is completely different, many of those countries have socialized medicine funded in large by those high fuel prices/taxes, and train/tram/subway systems to land you within a few blocks of anywhere you want to go. We don't have either.

Europe has better transportation options and less rural areas that require longer drives.
I’m fine that some of you live in the city and do not have far to drive and wish we all had it that easy, it’s just not how it is though.

When you add the increase in logistics costs for materials and food while we are still licking our wounds from this recession it’s timing seems poor to say the least.

The idea of this plan has merit.
The practicality of so much.

Having a system where there is one person that can make so many others feel pain while he is isolated from it is poor leadership that fails most 3rd world countries.

Once again it’s the middle class and the poor that have to feel the brunt of a poor policy.
How does this help the people that need help the most?
Nothing liberal about this policy.
Liberals acted much differently when I went to school.

Respectfully speaking,
509 this is one thing that you and I will probably never agree on and that’s ok .

Forcing (by necessity) everyone to move to town = a more concentrated vote
3 counties now control the entire state vote, so if we make it ONE county, less voting and advertising expense!

Hoard feedstock to brew your own fuel. Hopefully algae feedstock comes soon! WA is great for growing algae. (Tho the Saltan Sea would be better). The equivalent size algae bed would supply all the USA sustainable diesel and jet A needs. (at an 85% reduction in emissions). No infrastructure or vehicle modification needed.
