I know. One can't buy a concept car, but the Evo is ready for buying
You have to keep in mind that the Evo is in direct competition with the Subaru concept car you posted.
Although I've been a big fan of both the Evo and the STi over the years, this concept is significantly better than any iteration of either car. All Subaru has to do is retain that styling, improve the interior and perform at least as well as the last STi.
I don't know if I see the M3 connection. From a styling perspective I'd go with this concept over the current M3 by a long shot. It definitely looks like a much more expensive car.
I like it; it looks like a Audi from the front, an Evo from the side and a Civic from the back, but overall I like it.
It looks a lot like the BRZ STI concept, meaning I think quite a few things will change from this render, the brakes, the headlight configuration, the rear diffuser, the black carbon/faux carbon roof, the mirrors, etc...but I think the car will look something like 80-85% of what this render is.
All signs point to the FA20 Turbo with DI, but like the article states, we don't know if it's going to have 275-300hp. If the WRX has 300 then the STI will have to have around 330-340 (IMO).
If this new WRX gets anywhere near 30MPG more power and has a bit more creature comforts, 6-speed, keyless entry and some other things I might consider a trade in a couple of years.

The Forester XT gets 28 MPG highway with the high-torque CVT and 250 HP. The WRX should have MUCH better aerodynamics but ultimately it'll depend on engine tuning and transmission gearing.
I don't think it would be unreasonable to expect 30 MPG highway if the high-torque CVT is an option. I have no idea what manual tranny they might put in though, so no idea what gearing or MPGs.
Step 1: Take the (already fairly new) Impreza hatch:
Step 2: Loose the bar across the grill, and give it a hood scoop and sportier wheels:
Step 3: Lower it, and loose the roof rails. (my paint skills aren't good enough for this step...yet).
It'll also probably get different ground effects (read: more expensive bumpers front and rear, that stick out. Probably a rear diffuser, as seen on the BRZ; also includes larger side skirts) and body color molding on the mirror pillars.
The new WRX and STi will no longer be based on the Impreza. They're making a concious effort to separate the two, so I highly doubt it.
As far as the styling of that render, I definitely see a lot of GT-R in the front fenders.

Eh, fair enough. It'll probably wind up similar to the BRZ. Not sure how well they can build a sedan on the same chassis, but it'd be interesting to see the styling cues in a larger vehicle. Hopefully they'll keep making a hatch version, though.
That is a truly attractive piece of machinery. From a styling perspective this is probably the first car I've seen under the $35k price point that wouldn't make me feel guilty about leaving my Genesis Coupe. This concept carries some serious visual weight.
