Developers to Bring New Whole Foods to Seekonk, Cite Market Opportunity Due to Washington Bridge

"A new Whole Foods Market is slated to come to Seekonk on the Rhode Island border — and the project team cited the huge opportunity for Massachusetts afforded by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) Washington Bridge failure."

"“It’s really a draw for people who don’t want to go into Providence and deal with the East Side and parking and traffic, especially with this bridge,” he said. “God knows what that’s going to bring, five to six years from now.”

“This is a perfect site for that and we’re very excited,” he added.”

A new Whole Foods will allow residents in Barrington, Warren and Bristol to avoid the Washington Bridge fiasco and shop in Massachusetts."

Wonder what this means for the East Side location? I'm sure a lot of their customers come from East Bay.

I'm sure it will be fine. Plenty of East Siders don't want to go to Seekonk unless they have to.

I should have specified the Waterman St. location. Between that and N Main St., you think the East Side will still be able to support two?

I would think the great majority of the customer base for the two east side Whole Foods locations come from close by. I doubt a large number were crossing the Washington Bridge to go to the Providence stores.

Half of Barrington shops at the Whole Foods stores in Providence.

South Providence.

The Whole Foods being discussed is on the East Side of Providence, near the foot of the Henderson Bridge. A significant part of its customers have come from East Bay (that is East Providence, Barrington, Warren, Bristol) and nearby MA. Now with the ongoing Washington Bridge problems, a new Seekonk store would likely draw many of those customers away.

I think so- yes. A lot of the Whole Foods shoppers come from the surrounding apartments, tenements, and so forth near College Hill for the N. Main location. The Waterman St location serves many from the entire East Side and Oak Hill section of Pawtucket.

The yucky Seabra store in Bristol is going to be a Clement's which should represent an improvement.

I'd like to see a Market Basket on Rt 6 in Seekonk. They beat out all others for price & service.
