Very disingenuous, Wood . . . drawing irrelevant distinctions among Christians for whom Christ is their moral compass. I understand your personal focus on distinctions among Muslims . . . given your atypical beliefs. But such superficial distinctions in belief do not characterize a religion . . . they ALL believe in God (whatever name they use) . . . and there IS only one. The distinguishing characteristic of religions is their central figure. For Christians the central figure is Christ, period . . . for Muslims the central figure is Mohammed . . . for Jews the central figure is Moses, etc. etc.
Actually I guess because of my old Catholic roots I am quite sympathetic towards Catholics and feel they come closest to being what Christianity was intended to be. But I do believe the reason for the recent gain among Christianity is because of the resurgence of Evangelical Catholicism particularly in Africa and India. Yes Christianity is growing. but most of that growth is among Catholics. As to if Christians are divided, probably just among the small minority that teaches Catholocism is not Christianity. For the majority, Christians are accepting of all denominations.

I'm sure the Greek Orthodox Church would have something to say about it.
I fail to see this as news. Several magazines have documented the rise of Christianity in Africa over the years. We all know that there are a lot of Christians out there, and a lot of Muslims as well.
In other news, about 50% of the human population is male, the other half female. And there are a lot of people who speak Spanish outside of Spain.
"OK: let's all chant together now!.... ana-One, ana-Two..."

Lucy - why did you say you weren't Christian in another thread? Were you lying?
Lucy seems bound and determined to convert us all by simply guilt-tripping and claiming that the majority rules, etc. etc.
Of course, even if He does exist (even though so far there's not one scintilla of proof or of good or even hypothetical evidence of that, of course...) , God gave me a rather skeptical persona, one graced with some ability to slog through the ideas that less critical thinkers (the "follower" set, let's call them...) seem to relish in and essentially, simply lay down for.
Any hard and fast doctrine-soaked religious belief system is metaphorically identical to Patton's quote about fixed fortifications; to wit, and lightly paraphrased... they "are a monument to the stupidity of man".
As in: built to seemingly withstand any philosophical onslaught, religions are, sadly, fixed in space and time as well as in durability, unable to adjust to changing conditions, changing facts and alternate scenarios (truths). Their endurance is occasionally enahanced by dint of a constantly swelling global mass of desperate illiterates who, lacking any other direction or a good thinking education, will bow down and accept mental subservience, given the silly promises offered up by their ever-crafty leaders.
What is interesting, of course, is that both Christianity and Islam are fading fast among the educated, progressive and high standard-of-living countries (North America, Europe, Russia, China & Japan), who, it's notable, are also not pushing out huge numbers of oversized but underprivileged and desperate families, left to starve by the world at large.
Sems that mass subservience and thoughtless obedience is a cornerstone of being or becoming a good Christian, huh, Lucy? Be my guest, girl!

You've got that one right, EG. Of course, one problem is that the growing mass of new-age illiterates will not be able to support the church in the manner to which it has become accustomed over it's relatively short career. And then there's all those new lawsuits about homosexual abuse to pay for.
Praise God, this is proof that God is greater than Allah!
