I spent an afternoon in an around Bartlesville last summer. I really enjoyed it. Seemed like a very decent town, by that I mean clean, well laid out, plenty of commerce and quite liveable. I'm a coastal Californian and if I ever were to make a move to the inland states, I'd take a really hard look at Bartlesville. The urban thing may work for some but not me.

Thanks man, I'll be checking that out.

Thanks for the info. I will be in town to visit soon. The info is on par with what I thought the place would be like. The conservative thing will be interesting, but I’m a pretty likable guy so I’m sure politics and religion won’t be a problem.

About the pubs. I feel some of you might get the wrong idea of what I look at pubs for. Considering I know no one, seeing a game or escaping from the house for a burger and a beer is common. It’s not about boozing it up and then hitting the highway. On football Sunday’s me, my wife, and my kid go to our local bar, where everyone goes in our neighborhood, and watch a football game and have some food. It’s our religious experience. ☺ Basically I like to meet new people and love having friends. The question about pubs is more or less a question on where I can meet folks I would get along with.

I can't imagine a bar in Oklahoma letting kids in unless it's a place that also serves food like Buffalo Wild Wings, a chain, which Bartlesville has one. Maybe Buffalo Wild Wings has bigger video screens than what you're used to. Like I said, Oklahoma doesn't have much of a decent bar culture going, probably due to alcohol being banned very early in Oklahoma state history, around 1910, and not legalized until the late 1950s and only partly then. Liquor by the drink wasn't made legal until 1984.

Sooo.. Bar's and pubs aside, what is there to do? I'm also looking at a place in Ochelata. How far of drive is it from Bartlesville?

I’ve had some real challenges finding rental homes in Bartlesville proper. My online search only yields some apartment complex. Not an option. Do any of you know of a good reality or any other suggestions? Maybe a new thread would be proper for that question.

Well, like I've said before about renting, you may need to drive up and down the neighborhoods of Barltlesville in search of a FOR RENT sign. Late spring thru middle of summer is probably a better time to find a place to live. Maybe one reason why it's so hard to find a separate home is because a lot of people want out of those dang, crowded, noisy apartments. My suggestions, though, come from living in Stillwater, not Bartlesville.

The problem is that I won’t be able drive around Bartlesville. I live in Chicago and if I move there it will need to be as soon as possible. I might even need to get a place site unseen.

What’s driving me nuts is some of these places will only allow outside pets. Please tell me how that makes sense. If a pet owner has a dog out in the yard day in and night you have a dog with behavioral problems. Usually those dogs bark all day and night, they tear up the yard, and the yard is full of crap. If I were a property owner I wouldn’t want to do that to my property or my neighborhood, or to the poor animal.

I might just end up in Owasso.

You mean there's more houses to rent in Owasso? I wouldn't be surprised, if there is, since it's a faster growing place.

That's nuts you can't find a single decent rental property. I would think Bartlesville is a pretty transient town with the number of corporate transfers.

StillwaterTownie may be right in the sense that a lot of people in Bartlesville (like a lot of other small towns) may not be hip to things like Craigslist or Padmapper and may just like to rent out their places the old fashioned way, like sticking a sign out in the yard. In that light you may just want to try the local newspaper.

Examiner Enterprise, Bartlesville

If you decide to look outside of town, don't overlook Skiatook. There are some really pretty properties out that way and its equal distance to B-Ville from Owasso.

I would avoid Ocheleta. Drove through that place one time....boy, what a sad little town.

Collinsville would be an option too. It’s the Tulsa suburb just to the north of Owasso so it’s a bit closer. Also, many of the newer subdivisions are near US 75 which is the highway that runs from Tulsa to Bartlesville so it’s an easy drive. Much of Owasso is closer to and even beyond US 169 which is further east and doesn’t go to Bartlesville at all. There isn’t a good link on the north side of the metro between the two highways either, it’s all surface streets or rural roads. Be careful though, there are parts of the old rural small town of Collinsville that are not so nice. These areas are also mostly closer to 169 and further from Bartlesville.

Overall the north side of Tulsa metro is not densely populated at all so don’t be shocked. It’s a lot of widely scattered subdivisions with very little what you would think of as urban or even suburban living. Tulsa is a very much a south side town. You could live in Tulsa, there are lots of commuters from Bartlesville that work in downtown Tulsa and you can do the reverse, but it’s a trek. It’s not as hard to do as it looks on a map since there is so little traffic on the north side highways.

If you decide to look at Tulsa, don’t do the closer (and cheaper) north side. Not a good area to rent a house sight unseen. Midtown is the large area just south of downtown and is the best area to live in the whole state but it is a good 45+ minutes drive to Bartlesville. On the good side the area has plenty of pubs and things to do. It's the only part of the state that will feel somewhat like Chicago. It’s also not cheap and won’t have many rentals. The further south you go the more you will find, but your distance is increasing as is the traffic.
