I remember going to school in Canfield with a bunch of kids who had family members in the Youngstown/Pittsburgh/Cleveland mafia. This was in elementary school in the 80s. Have things changed?

I don't think so. But there are posters here who will disagree.

Yeah, I don't know....

Recently, it seems like I read that 1 in every 10 people there was a mob member. But I could easily be wrong........

Just make sure to pay them off when they say so or you'll be "swimming with the fishes"

I thought Youngstown was more famous for its "tune-up" than its fishes? But, I've heard there are a lot of interesting things at the bottom of McKelvey Lake, so I don't know.

Oh, and are you sure you didn't read that 1 in 10 were "gang" members? I still find that hard to believe, but it's more believable to me than "mob" members.

The mob might not be openly public... but the politicians that run Youngstown are practically a mob of their own.

Yeah, it definitely could have been, the article would have been printed in about 2005, so yeah.....

Also think you are correct about the "tune-up", although Lake Erie isn't THAT far....

You don't hear too much about the mafia in Youngstown anymore. Youngstown seems to have more problems with the violent African American street gangs these days, and the violence is 99.9%, if not 100%, related to drugs. I suspect the 1 in 10 is 1 in 10 residents of Youngstown city being in a gang. Most of Youngstown city is very low income these days. Outside of Youngstown and Warren, the rest of the metro area is pretty quiet.
