I have birth certificate, social security card, proof of insurance proof of residency.....what I can't find is my NC license...it has gone MIA in the midst of the move...I know the number, and it's valid and in good standing....do i need to get some sort of photo id or do all of these qualify me???

I think it should qualify you. I believe that is what I had when I moved here from PA.

I'm moving down to Ohio next month from Ontario, Canada and need to register my car and get a license... any tips on what might need to happen? The last time we walked into an insurance office in Ohio, the person there said that they can't insure my car until it has an Ohio license plate on it. But from one of the earlier posts, it sounds like I can't get an Ohio license plate until I have my car insured in Ohio? How does that work?

Additionally, with people being asked to surrender their out-of-state driver's license, what will happen to my Ontario license? I would still prefer to keep that for driving in Ontario since my move to Ohio isn't a permanent one.

I would say keep it, is there anyway they can know? You do NOT have to get Ohio plates. My one car still has PA plates on them. You will have to get your car insured in Ohio. I don't know if you can get your car insured somewhere else while keep the Ontario plates... Sorry, different states have so many different laws and it can get confusing.

How about an Impact fee here in OH? Is it expensive to get tags switched over?

I don't know what an impact fee is, but i just got a new car and transferred my old tags to the new vehicle, it cost me a whopping $4.50.

Do you happen to know how long you can keep non-Ohio plates on a car? I currently have my car insured with a Canadian company for now, and will switch over a US company once I get my Ohio driver's license.
