“ If the U.S. did away with the electoral college and elected the President by popular vote, and had Congressional representation actually reflect the will of the people, our political fortunes would be much improved. ”

Bullsheet!
Yes do away with the electoral college if you want New York and California to pick your presidents for the rest of your life.

Hard to say how this would actually change anything. The true popular vote election would have to have it be totally equal across all states. It would have to be strictly only the president that is voted on. No other issues on the ballot could be included, as other issues might encourage more people in one state than another to vote. Also hard to say how that might encourage people in small states to make sure they turn out. Maybe NY and California turn out big, but you might also see massive turnout from 10 small states that makes a difference too.

I don't support the popular vote election concept though.

I also believe we should ban mail in ballots except for a few verifiable exceptions. And we definitely need a valid picture ID and signature for any vote cast. No exceptions!

In my experience..leftsits like you who huddle in posh woke zones like Shaker Heights are truly racist....its projection.
What do right-wingers do?... Oh right, form racist militias, rundown peaceful protesters with their cars and plot to kidnap and kill sitting governors for making lifesaving rules like limiting gatherings and mandating face masks during a worldwide pandemic because this threatens their white manhood. Yep, right-wingers are very good people ('on both sides"), right?

Racist malitias on both sides. Why argue otherwise? Ie.antifa,kkk,BLM,skinheads,etc. take your pick!

Peaceful protesters are not in the middle of a freeway, and it’s THEIR fault they get run over. Not a scared driver in the middle of a so-called “peaceful “ protest.

Limiting gatherings by isolating family members and loved ones, along with your face diaper obviously has not worked since the beginning of the year. How in the f* do you hide from an airborne virus??? Let’s get real and stop spreading the fear.

“White manhood” (comment above) what does that mean? Why did u put a color in front of manhood? Does color matter when it comes to manhood?
I hope you are not a real professor indoctrinating white people with your white guilt BS philosophy.

I’m not offended in the least. I just wanted to counter some of your fake narrative in a few of your paragraphs.

Who's more backwards?

** Rural white guy who works a simple blue collar job, buys a house for less than $150,000 which he will pay off soon, owns two cars that are both paid off, has 4 acres of land surrounding his property. He's self-sufficient, grows some of his own veggies on his property, occassionally hunts for meat, and barters with some of his neighborhors for things like fresh eggs and to get his driveway plowed in the winter. He's a solid member of his community.

** City liberal who works a white collar job. Is still making expensive payments to pay off his $650,000 condo in the city. Occassionally has breathing issues from poor air quality in the city. Hasn't yet paid off his $70,000 college debt. Doesn't own a car. Takes the subway to work -- once he accidentally sat on a pile of vomit. Use to work in a little office cubicle but now works from home inside his condo, which isn't much different from his office cubicle, the same sterile modern architecture. Doesn't own any land. Can't remember the last time he felt grass on his feet or walked through a forest. Isn't really part of an actual community. Has to take anti-depressants.

Move out of a small town with fresh air, plenty of space, and a lower cost of living? Why the hell would they do that?

Who wants to pay $500,000+ to live in a little ratbox in some liberal city filled with crime, poor air quality, and idiots who almost walk into traffic because they're glued to their i-phone screen? Chasing a high-income paycheck from some faceless corporation isn't worth it. I'd rather be near broke living in a cabin in the woods than be some depressed rat-race yuppie living in a little shoebox condo in manhattan.

What muck! If you knew anything about Ohio, you would know that a $500,000 condo would only be owned by someone that could buy and sell your rural model resident many times over. The individual would have access to many, many more amenities, and much, much superior healthcare.

You have little or any grasp at all of Ohio property values and lifestyles. Where the heck do you live??? Some place like Houston???

Candidly, I well appreciate both lifestyles and have many family members who were raised in rural Ohio. I have great affection for it, and have spent months living there. And I own property in rural Ohio that has been in the family for well over a century.

You also obviously know nothing about Ohio's Republicans making the state a dumping grounds for radioactive fracking waste water. Many rural areas of the state have seen a proliferation of high pressure injection wells that threaten aquifers.

You also obviously know nothing about the proliferation of factory farms in Ohio and the state's resulting toxic algal pollution.

You also have no appreciation of the air pollution risks of living downwind of pesticide and herbicide applications on fields and orchards.

What a very sorry post!
