Hey guys,

I am currently in the middle of deciding if to keep my current position that I have been employed with for about 2.5 years where I work remotely 4 days a week from home and 3 days off Fri, Sat, Sun. I get about 28 PTO days a year which is very decent amount as we all know. Okay medical benefits. Now to people who are probably wondering what I do, I'm an Enterprise Architect.

The new job offer that I have is for very large service provider (big name) at a position with a better title with about 15-20k bump in salary a year. But the downfall is that I will be working 5 days a week out of which approximately 2-3 days from home a week. I may also need to work weekends time to time as needed for the project I'll be on. About 21 PTO days a year and unlimited sick days. But much better company who is listed on NASDAQ. 6% match etc. Possible career growth in long term.

What would you do if you were in that specific situation?

Cisco, I'm surprised, being that you're an enterprise architect, that you gave unequal emphasis between the two job options.

This would indicate you already have a preference for the second option, for which you give more information, referred to as "much better company", and for which you see "career growth in the long term".

You've already characterized your current job as the worst of two options.

Good luck with your new job.

In this situation I think you have to ask yourself what's more important, work life balance or career growth. From the sounds of it you have a pretty sweet gig right now in my opinion. If you are happy with the pay and work why not just stay. However, if you think you have reached your potential with your current company and want more money, the new job is the obvious choice.

If it were me I'd stay put. You get to work remotely and get a three day weekend every week, plus 28 PTO days a year. That's a no brainer for me man. Many people would kill for that job schedule. Best of luck to you on your decision!

How much will it cost you to commute the additional 1-2 days per week? What is the dollar value of the 28 PTO vs 20 PTO? Will the new position mean interruptions outside of your scheduled work day? If the new position wasn't all it appeared to be, how difficult would it be to go back to the job you currently hold?

Well the sick days are unlimited so not so bad there with PTO. Yeah the new position might have me stay late certain days and maybe weekends once in a while. I'm not sure if I'd like to come back to my current position.
