The traffic will get worse after 9pm once the congestion toll is over and people will be jamming the bridges and tunnels to get in. And we may see restaurants will have to increase Happy Hour discounts to get people to show up early.
Thought congestion pricing was 24/7.
I am betting congestion pricing will spread all over nyc. MTA needs infinite funding
I would like to know what's convincing you that 7-9 PM are such important hours. How many people you think are driving into Manhattan on a weeknight to have dinner?
As a lifelong NYer, I can speak from my personal experience. I had many outer boro friends drive in Manhattan for dinner & drinks on Thursday or Friday after work for years. During my college years, I drove out to Manhattan quite frequently.
Many of the cooler spots have shifted to Brooklyn or certain spots in Queens in recent years. Congestion pricing will certainly push people away from Manhattan

During college back in the day, yes, who didn't
I did it routinely
Not now
I doubt people are doing that in their 40s
And tbh I don't know if college kids are even doing that nowadays. Even after I got out of school, around that time was when WBurg started coming up, and then after a while, you realized, hey, I don't have to cross the river for Thai food any more.
Back in the day you went to Manhattan because you pretty much had no choice, now you have choices

I wonder if every car owner in the NYS part of the NY metro area voted against Hochul the next time around, if we could dump here. I bet if Zelden were governor, this would have been shot down.

Agreed. Also, if Zelden did this, all the media would be bashing it and him. But since it’s Democrat Hochul, no bad press. They all go along with it.
Remember how that same media when Trump temporarily stopped it via the Fed DOT, they bashed him saying how he was hurting NYC, being petty and retribution blah, blah, blah…
Within 5 years, they're going to toll downtown Brooklyn and LIC guaranteed. Any fool can see this coming from a mile away.
I haven't driven in Downtown Brooklyn in years
But Downtown Brooklyn is crowded with vehicular traffic at 2 AM as I last remember it, its probably worse now, and thats despite the neighborhood being so acessible to many forms of public transportation
