What do you think? Will it work? I don't think it will. I think what this plan is missing is that it requires the police to actually catch the farebeaters.

If there are already fines for doing it, and it's not deterring anyone, I don't think larger fines will necessarily have much of an impact.

The illegals have no address, no SS, no care about getting tickets where enforcement action have no consequences on them.

I think it's stupid and mean.

There's no more meaningful crime to target?

The people who normally do pay their fares are getting sick and tired of seeing 10 people waltz thru the gate or under the turnsytle or in the back door of the bus every time they enter the system.

The paying people are tired and feeling dumb for being the only paying customers when so many others are getting free rides with no consequences

So then you're going to have even more farebeating when the people who used to pay no longer feel like it anymore because so many other people aren't paying .

do you think the system can run on no money from fares?

https://nypost.com/2024/01/13/metro/...res-up-29/amp/

“NYC subway safe? Fare-beating arrests skyrocket 132%, gun seizures up 29%

Of the 45 guns recovered, 24 were seized during encounters with fare-beaters. In 2022, 11 of the 35 firearms came from such incidents.

The figures also show that 1,462 fare-beaters arrested in 2023 had an active warrant, 88% more than the 777 the year before.“

So the worst of the worst are avoiding fares? How dumb can one be to be jumping turnstiles with a gun on them?
