How much longer will NYC’s obsession with COVID last? (Boston: living, moving)

Over the past couple months, I’ve visited some of the most liberal cities in the country (San Francisco, Washington DC, and Boston) and in none of them have I witnessed the degree of outdoor masking and general Covid paranoia/obsession that I see in NYC. Will Covid obsessiveness ever end here, or is it just a part of the local culture now?
I can't afford to keep getting sick and having to take time off work. So I wear masks INDOORS. Not outdoors. (Technically I have unlimited PTO but that's besides the point)
I've had to take 7 days off already this year, 5 days due to COVID and 2 days from some other virus. The COVID was from unavoidable exposure at CityMD (had to get my ear blockage flushed) and the other virus from my Super who had to come in and fix the toilet. In both situations I was wearing KN95 mask, the outcome would likely be more severe if we were not.
If people are wearing masks outdoors that is their prerogative. But some of us are more prone to infection and don't want to be sick with anything, whether COVID or not. So I'll be wearing mask indoors for the next year or so. I was able to get a 100% remote job and l'll be declining any travel opportunities for the next 12-24 months.
Everyone can do whatever works for them moving forward. Just don't impose on my needs and I won't impose on yours. I don't enjoy being sick and I'm at increased risk for Long COVID/complications. So I'll continue to mask up indoors until levels go down.
Why worry about COVID when heart disease is still the number one cause of death in America?
If the media emphasized every person who was admitted to the hospital for heart disease, the dummies who are paranoid about COVID would immediately stop consuming anything made with white flour, processed foods, fruit juices, omega 9 vegetable oils and all GMOs. But why isn’t this happening? Because the dummies only listen to the media and the media controls their fear, logic and overall sense of being!

You think if you get infected while wearing a KN-95 mask it would reduce the severity of the illness? I’ve never heard that claim. I’ve heard that vaccinated people get less severe illnesses if they get infected but not that a mask would make infections less severe.

I was just going to post the same thing. Your covid wouldn't have been anymore severe without a mask.
What your masks did was reduce your chances of getting covid, and possibly have prevented you from getting it a different time. But if you do manage to catch it , it's not going to be less severe bc of the mask.
