That doesn't make sense to me, as here in the Southern Bronx they are in the housing projects on a daily basis, including the hallways/staircases, etc. I have never seen or heard of an officer claiming it is too dangerous for them to go somewhere, at least not here. Maybe that's how it is in Staten Island...it is its own world.
We've tried that in the past. With the M-13 and Latin King activity around here, they refuse to go down the driveway as they are afraid of a gunfight (it's actually more of a small street, with 3 houses).
Pretty bad when armed Police are afraid to break up a party.
Just curious, where in SI are you? I am on SI too..
What has the world come to when people can move into a NYC ethnic neighborhood and be able to complaint about the loud music to 311 and to top it off the police do nothing about it, tis tis...
Just messing with you'll. I had a neighbor upstairs playing loud music at night in the middle of the week. I had enough and went upstairs and politely asked them to stop since I work during the work. And guess what they stopped.
I am glad it worked for you. My friend is going through hell with his neighbor blasting music on a work week. He went to the person next door and said to turn it down so he can sleep. It worked at first but then he ignored him. It finally erupted into a fight.

I think its not the dangerous part, but sometimes the Police could be getting paid off not to go to certain areas.
Money talks.
Or they ignore the problem because of the zip code. Its the norm
it's not Mexicans in particular who love laud music - as a person whos lived in a lot of neighborhoods, seems the poorer the neighborhood (or neighbors) are the louder the musics is - Hope that isn't too offensive - I have called 311 for so many things, noise included, and gotten the 8 hour response - I beleive the 311 system is just logging complaints for some massive demographics survey, they aren't really doing anything like dispatching police - as to telling them something more sinister is happening, good idea, but if you live in a depressed area, such as myself, they still don't come unless there is an actual gun sighting, and even then, they took 4o mins - "luckily" the 12 or so people who were fighting/waving the pistola were still at it when the squad cars arrived - <sigh>
As to asking someone who is blasting their music to lower it - that's a crap shoot - most times I'm pretty nice about it - after 1 am i'll get indignant, and ask the neighbor to cut it, or at least stop my mirrors from shaking - usually they do turn it down a bit. unfortuantley the worst situation i had w/ neighbors is the guy im semi attached to now who almost burned us down a few yrs ago - he said it was his house, he could play the music as loud as he wanted.
i said ok. waited till he turned off his music, and stated playing mine. Oh, btw - I love weird music/ German techno and my hubby has no end to his thrash / black metal collection. Oh that was a fun Sunday afternoon....I never really turned up my 600 watt Avents before - "them ****s is loud son" direct quote....can't wait to move....
311 was really designed to alleviate some of the bulk of calls to 911 but it was never intended to be some great solution to quality of life problems. They might have hyped it that way initially a bit but all they did was change the way the calls were taken. The issues remain.

You have MS-13 in your neighborhood? The Salvadorian gang?
YES! Thank you. 311 is good for total dummies who know nothing about NYC. However, anyone with a good basic understanding of how the city functions will probably find 311 useless.
