Unless Murphy vetoes bill (not likely) coming soon to a town near you; poor people and urban sprawl.

Sooner or later something has to give, we are not just talking poor people here, plenty of middle class can simply not afford it.
A good portion of the private rental market, realtors have a lock on, as well as some complexes that at one time had their own leasing offices. They charge an entire month rent as their broker fee, some of them so shoddy they can't even post decent photos, not professional, but decent on sites like realtor or Zillow.

You have someone looking to rent, the rent is $2k a month, that's on low end, 1.5 month rent as a security deposit, then tack on broker fee of $2k, renter has to pony up $7k to get the key, it's insane.

They need to set rent control for the entire state too for EVERY single Landlord. Also, force every town to offer at least 40% of apartment units based on income. Affordable housing is a human right. Furthermore, ANCHOR doesnt even cover a month's rent.

Affordable housing is not for poor people. You have to be able to pay the rent, and they don't accept section 8. In Ocean City they built 5 very nice duplexes to meet the requirment, interspersed in different areas. The rent is lower than market rates but it's not for poor people. People on disability, SNAP, etc would not be able to afford them.

“These houses are not subsidized. They are affordable houses to rent. We have to make sure the residents can afford to pay the rent,” Jacqueline Jones, the housing authority’s executive director, said in an interview.

"Although the duplexes are considered affordable housing, they will not be subsidized, so the tenants must have adequate income to afford the rent.
“This is a situation where if they don’t pay the rent, they will be evicted,” Jones said at the monthly board meeting Tuesday of the Ocean City Housing Authority and Ocean City Community Development Corp."

As of November, they have had more than 200 applicants for the 10 units.

Not sure if this is a sarcastic post or not because this is quite a left leaning stance you’re taking for someone who continually posts about how Dems ruin everything.

Define poor. Because rent is over $2000 a month in "poor" areas. Is $70,000 a year poor? If your rent is $2400 a month, $70,000 a year is poor?

So i guess people in the $65,000 - $80,000 a year income bracket don't deserve to not have to pay half of their monthly income on housing. Good to know.
