The articles have been in the paper. They are not made up. You can believe what you want.

The smog from Vegas and Phoenix flows into our area and this is upsetting. We moved here to get away from the smog in Southern CA. Lately, we've been limiting our trips up to Vegas due to the smog, traffic and congestion. Miss the "old Vegas."

I really don't have time to "go rounds" with you. Believe whatever you want. This is your perrogative. BHC

LIke many of your ilk...you have nothing but opinions...and when asked to substantiate them you go off in a sulk.

You really have nothing to offer but poorly considered opinion.

I live in Vegas and I don't see any of what you are talking about. Vegas does get smog more in the summer months, but so does every big city, and alot more than Vegas will ever have. If you like it here so much, why do you put it down so much??
And in case you don't know this already, vegas is not the strip and the strip is not vegas. The area you are most likely referring to with smog, in the summer months, not winter, is usually around the strip. Alot of what you are actually seeing is dust from construction sites. It settles back down in the evening.

Also, the smoking ban still stands. There are some diehard lung cancer wannabes that own bars that still let their patrons smoke, but now they are being fined. There are also other owners of bars with food that are re-doing their places to allow smokers in one section and food in the other while keeping the smoke by the smokers where it belongs.

I always think it's funny when people that don't live here are putting down our city or trying to get people to not move here, which wouldn't be a bad idea really, less traffic would be great. So maybe you can keep up the lies so more people will stay away.

We on the other hand that live here and like it know better.Like i said before, if it sucks so bad here, why do almost 2 million people call it home here?

And one more thing...the smog that is probably finding it's way to you is most likely from the fires in California. It always blows our way. Plus the mining operations, which are the biggest offenders of air pollution in Nevada. And they also account for their pollution coming into the Vegas valley along with all the construction dust, etc.
There have also been news articles concerning that. Do a search.

I grew up in a small house in Minnesota, windows closed through the cold months, my Dad smoked 3 packs of Kool's everyday, we were all exposed to 2nd-hand smoke during those years, my mother even longer. My mother died at age 86, and never did I detect any respiratory problems as a result of all those years of being exposed to 2nd hand smoke, she died of liver cancer. What of the respiratory problems of myself or my other two siblings? Where are the results? Jackie Kennedy smoked right up until the 4 months before she died, she did not die of lung cancer and what effect did her 2nd hand smoke have on John Jr. & Caroline? America is never happier unless it's on a witch-hunt, all started with the witch hunt in Salem, Massachusetts. If i quit smoking, more than likely I'll gain weight, then I become the next hunted witch in America,as it appears overweight people are due to become the next witches to hunt in this country. Let's not forget the futile witch hunt of communists in this country under Joe McCarthy for so many years. Californians started this all, and you know Californians: they can see a leaf, but they can't see the tree; they see the tree, but then they can't see the forest.

I agree with Beaver Bob. I would also add though, that even though I smoke I could quit if necessary. So ,With that thought in mind, how to make it necessary.Quit this redicilouse approach of passing even more laws to stop smokers from shortening there lives by banning smoking everywhere except in your own basement with the windows closed because non-smokers insist on going into smoking rest.instead of finding one that dosn't allow smoking. Public buildings are a different matter, but a park !! If your 'outside' how could smoke be a problem. Do you insist on sitting downwind of a groop of smokers and insist "they have to stop smoking" cause your to to lazy to move ? Hear is the solution, Make it Illegal to grow any kind of tobacco product or produce any kind of smoking material. Problem Solved,Right? Except for the thousands of newly unemployed people, Except for the billions of dollars going into state and federal coffers that some of which actually winds up improving our lifestile {ie road repair, state and federal funding of construction, small business loans funding, etc, etc.] Now factor in the hue and cry of the smokers themselves who would scream bloodymurder at there respective representatives that had the gall to vote for such a law.......I guess I'm trying to say, Where the hell doe's it end ??????

Default smoking ban

Hello

Hurray, I'm so glad about this latest smoking ban.
It compares with Hawaii, lovely news!
Since the ban has been put into effect on Hawaii it means that I can vacation there without having to pre-book a room.
Now I just turn up and take my pick of any of the hundreds and hundreds of empty, lovely, sweet smelling non-smoking rooms I choose. In the past Hawaii used to be crammed full to bursting point with hoards of nasty, smelly tourists, but not any more.
Thing have changed for the better, the majority of tourists who used to visit Hawaii have changed destinations and are going to places like the Bahamas, where they can smoke as much as they like.
This island nation is obviously a very backward one, can you imagine this?
Who in their right mind wants to pay to stay in a place where they are allowed to do whatever they feel like doing?
I say good riddance, glad to be rid of them, after all, we don't need them spending their dollars here if they are going to smoke those nasty cigarettes...... do we?

Another thing that makes me really mad is the fact that some people are actually trying to promote hotels who give their guests a choice between smoking and non-smoking rooms, this is a website where hotel owners can actually advertize to attract some of the 46 million people in the US who smoke cigarettes, see http://www.smokingwelcome.com
I think this is wrong and should be stopped, the government should ban any form of choice and freedom whatsoever, and effect total control over what used to be known as "personal freedoms".

Roy (the blatant advertizer....... tongue placed firmly in-cheek)

10-4 I agree with that, Beaver Bob. At the least there would be a choice. And THAT is all I could ask for.

Tongue in Cheek or not, You have raised a good question [ie problem],Freedom of choice. Seems to be going "UP IN SMOKE". Tell you what, here in Indiana, the intelligent chosen one's in Indy are pushing through a law to stop smoking in public places. Typical knee jerk reaction to some complaints about those nasty smokers and their filthy habit. AND, they want to raise the taxes on a pack of those filthy things to .50 cents more than present. I get the feeling that they wish we would either buy the smokes as usual and run them through the garbage disposal, or stop smoking but PLEASE don't stop paying the tax money.Facetious as it sounds, I don't know where there heads are on this one.

Another one of those Freedom of Choice things. Ever hear this one? If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. How long would a resturant last if food was allowed to spoil while waiting to be prepared for a customer ? How doe's that compare with YOU refusing to fraternize an establishment that permits there customers to chose the smokers area or the non-smokers area.Again, How many Freedoms are you willing to give up.Dosn't matter weather it's smoking bans or not,It's another FREEDOM OF CHOICE. Would you put up with the Gov. telling you what Church to worship at ? Another brick in the wall.

The ban is silly...

All of a sudden, it's against the law to light up a cigarette in a casino restaurant...but perfectly legal to chain smoke (if we want to) as long as we're dropping money into slot machines, or playing table games out on the casino floor. Go figure???

No thank you! We'll just stay home and save our money....Claire
Calling it "silly" is being kind. Stupid,Redundant,Assinine, even counterproductive are a few that come's to mind. I applaud you on your BAN.Those casinoes feel nothing until the profits go down. When it starts hurting there pockets, maybe they will suggest to the state legislature that lower profits tranlates into lower taxes. Which brings up a thought,Watch out Nevadans, the next thing you hear will be a new state tax being imposed. "Cause revenues are down and we don't no any other way to fix it."
