Did the new Super Wal-Mart shut down all of the small stores in your town? This happens all the time. SAD!! It happened to us!
Does Oregon have a total state smoking ban yet? Hope not.
I totally agree with what you said: "They are enacting new laws to turn otherwise good citizens into criminals!" Couldn't agree more. Sad but true!
Write anytime and I will too! Claire
Sorry it took so long to respond - this must've got buried under other threads 'til now.

Yes, WalMart did it's deed and most of the little shops that were here shut down - however, Evanston WY never was much for shopping. Several newer small family-owned shops have opened - but mostly it's hair-salons.
I don't know about Oregon's smoking-tolerance yet - but I will come Friday 'cause I'll be there then!
Holla - I don't get in as often as I used to and I'll be away for a few days but back within the week, probably.
Dano

Let them set the temperature at which they store and prepare food too?

It is so sad that Nevada had to go non-smoking too. I lived in the great "Nanny" state of California, and always enjoyed going up to Carson City area about 7-8 times a year. We could feel like real americans again, because all of our personal freedoms weren't being infrindged upon. Now, Nevada has gone the way of California....so sad. And, the funny thing is, the government worries about smoking, yet doesn't have a problem storing their nuclear waste in Nevada. Go figure. Well, Nevada, guess whats next....fines for smoking in your car,if you have a accident, and no smoking in your car if you have a child in the vehicle. Yep...thems the laws in this state I live in now. There are a lot of hotels that are completely non smoking, but the "bars" in this area allow smoking if you pay a small "member" fee to join the "Club".

no, not at all. But just as there are establishments who have the choice to make a place completely non-smoking, there should also be places that cater to smokers. Those who don't want to be around it can go to places that don't allow smoking. Those that either smoke or don't mind, can go to the places that allow smoking.

Not to worry my tobacco & video poker addicted friends. The law that was passed by voters is utterly toothless, pardon the pun. The proprietor will not be held responsible or accountable for enforcing the ban. If a fellow patron is offended, he or she will be instructed to contact the health department to police the offender. Of course, the health department has no staff to police the complaints. Even if they did the penalty is a small fine to the offender and not the establishment.

Tavern owners have been instructed by legal counsel to continue to supply ash trays and simply put out signs that the ash trays are to be used outside when lighting up.

Once again, our political process has failed.

I agree. I don't think one group of primates should be allowed to dictate what other primates can do in their own environment. But when it comes to MY environment people should NOT have a right to poison the air I breathe anymore than they area allowed to poison the water I drink. Only corporations are allowed to do that.
