We spent last winter in MB (really Surfside); it was one of the coldest winters ever, plus we 3.5 inches of snow. Didn't begin to warm up until March.
Now I know that it was unusual, but who's to say the unusual won't become the usual? All that being said, it's still better to be in MB in the winter than being in the north in the winter.
Hi, I am planning to stay in a hotel on North Myrtle Beach Jan. 1 thru April 1. I am coming from the Northern most part of Massachusetts on the New Hampshire border. Will I need to bring my winter coat and gloves?
I enjoy the beach in Fall and Winter......the sun and ocean breezes are great. I just take a chair out with my blanket and dog and we hang on the beach for a while reading or playing. There are still some good restaurants open and locals get discounts. This year I'm going to see if I can negotiate a rate to swim at one of the local hotels with an indoor, heated pool....then I won't be missing much of anything!
Hey Tinabean, If you find a hotel willing to do this, please post again here with the info. That would be great. Thanks.
It is not a place you want to be if you are looking for warm weather from the months of Nov.-Feb. The days are slightly warmer than those of The Northeast, however, the nights are as cold and often even colder than those up North. Do NOT recommend Myrtle Beach for these winter months! It is as cold as the summer is hot!
I am trying to pack for the 3 month stay. Never did this before, your help is appreciated. Thanks so much,
This is the weather channels average temp guide. This is what it has actually been so far this month. So although I hope we are headed back to the normal weather, I would pack a parka and the some long johns just in case.
Weather in Myrtle Beach is a little bit more moderated than other areas more inland. Being by the ocean helps temperatures from going lower than an inland area such as Columbia. But with that said, like any southeast climate (besides southern Florida), the weather can vary wildly in the winter time. You can get days in the 70's in the middle of winter and a cold snap from Canada can get temperatures in the teens at night. It's frustrating, but it's always a pleasant surprise to see temperatures get into the 60's and 70's where everyone else in the Northeast is digging themselves out of snow, saddling up their reindeer and heading to work in the morning in below zero temperatures. All in all though, it does get cold in Myrtle Beach and you will see frost- but not as extreme as more inland places.
