Hello! We are interested in learning more about the Surfside area, specifically the neighborhoods there. We are looking for a safe, seaside town feel. We really like the Cherry Grove area, but it seems that the schools south of Myrtle are better. We have two children, one in elementary and one going into middle school and see that the schools in that area (Seaside, Burgess, St. James) appear to be very good.

We would like to find something without an HOA that we would be able to rent out during the summers. No need for a large yard, but something large enough to have a fenced in yard for our two dogs.

In addition, we would like to be east of 17 so that we are within golf cart/bike ride of the beach.

Does anyone have any recommendations of areas that may appeal to us? Anything that should be avoided? Etc?

Thanks so much for the input!

Most of the area east of 17 in Surfside do not have HOA, but there are a few exceptions. Surfside is not large - 17 blocks north of center (Surfside Dr.) and 17 blocks south. Have you been to Surfside Beach? I can't imagine anyone not liking it. It is a wonderful, beachy town. There are no High-rise condos (if that appeals to you). The tallest are the Holiday Inn and Surfside Beach Reasort. All of Surfside east of 17 is within a golf cart ride (or walk) to the beach. I will advise that although much of the town is not under an HOA the town itself does have its own rules so check them out and make sure you are ok with them.

Thanks! We have a summer home in Pennsylvania so we are hoping to find a place to make our primary residence but be able to rent out those few months of the year. I've noticed that some homes specify they are within a rental zone. Where may I find zoning info to ensure we purchase a home we will be able to rent during the summer months?

Your Realtor will be able to help you with that, but here are a couple links for your reference.

R3 is the zone you would want to be able to rent your property on a weekly basis.

Map of Surfside zoning.

Hope this helps
