My son and his family are visiting from Colorado and my daughter and her husband and kids are coming in next may and are planning a trip to Myrtle Beach during Memorial Day weekend next year. We are thinking about going from the Wednesday before Memorial Day and leaving the Wednesday the week after. We used to go in Myrtle Beach in June when they was young and they have not been since then which was in 1997. Is Breakers still a nice place to stay? I know the pavilion closed but what else is there for family fun to do. Are there any special Memorial Day calibrations going on then or shows etc? I am looking forward to the whole family going back there since forever ago.
Be prepared that Memorial Weekend is Bikefest (also known as black bike week). It is centered around Atlantic Beach but it gets very crowded & crazy all through Myrtle Beach, too. The city has just enacted several laws to curb the event but this will be the first year they are in effect, so we shall see what happens.
There are always shows at the Alabama Theater & the Palace Theater. You can also go to Medival Times & Dolly Parton theater for shows there as well. Surfside has the Legends In Concert show. Plenty of shopping at the 2 Tanger outlets and Broadway at the Beach (many of the smaller rides were moved to B'way). NASCAR Park, Myrtle Waves & Family Kingdom all await you & your family.
Myrtle Beach Resort offers many condo rentals for ~$1000. a week. It is a gated community and less than 10 minutes to Broadway at the Beach. The resort has many pools, hot tubs and beach area. Come and go as you like and feel safe enough to walk around teh property at night. Dont forget to go to Barefoot landing and use the maps that are in teh coupon books, they will get you where you want to go. We go at least 2 times per year. Thornys is a great resuraunt.
We're staying at the Breakers over New Years, so will comment back. However, we love the Sand Dunes, Beach Cove, Dunes Village - stayed at all of those as well. Avoid Memorial Day Weekend if you can.
I've stayed at the Breakers several times, always at the new, bigger building. Last year they messed up the reservations & we had to stay in the building to the north (left of the office). OMG, what a difference... old & run down. It was certainly worth the extra money to stay in the efficiency unit which face the ocean.
There is Hard Rock park reopening in 2009. Broadway at the Beach SCs largest mall. or grand coastal scs largest indoor mall. Restaraunt row in Murrels Inlet. Ripleys aquarium, Planet Hollywood Restaraunt, Hard Rock Cafe. Huntington Gardens Zoo & gardens. Ripley's museums. Golfing. Family Kingdom amusement park. Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball. Myrtle Waves Water Park, Nascar Speedpark for kids. MB Speedway.Conway Riverwalk,Hammock Shops. Much Much More
Hard Rock is not coming back. It is closed for good as it stands now. Sorry to say...
The kids loved Dolly's Dixie Stampede........they never let out a peep....just adored the show.
They also liked the alligator place that is in front of Barefoot Landing. Tons of all size alligators, quite the place for kids to enjoy.......good picture spots too.
The huge Aquarium also, full of all kinds of sea creatures.
Movies at the Costal Mall are fun for a rainy day. Always fun things to do in MB.
See today's Wall Street Journal for the definitive story on MB's Hard Rock Park. In short, liquidation of the $400 million project is scheduled soon.
