Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone could make any suggestions for a nice (not too expensive) weekend trip away from the MB area. I initially thought of either Charleston or Wilmington but my husband declined as those are basically the only two areas that we have actually been to. Any suggestions as to anywhere else? I'm open to pretty much any ideas - mountains, city, beach (still pretty chilly though..), etc. And it will be Easter weekend so I don't know if that means that there will or won't be stuff going on in other cities to make it better or worse, or same. We were thinking possibly of maybe Savannah or Charlotte, or even possibly the mountains in NC but we're just wondering what areas other people like. Oh, and I'm probably going to have my dog with me (who is very well trained and can easily be left in a hotel or taken with us around town). Thanks in advance!

Savannah would be my choice over Charlotte, but I also love Charlotte. Beaufort, SC is also pretty wonderful and very dog friendly. We stayed at a B&B there a couple years ago with our dog and loved it. Beaufort is a quaint and very walkable town. Lots of history and lots of beautiful water views. Also, lots of other dog friendly places to stay other than the one in my link below.

Bed and Breakfast Beaufort South Carolina, Beaufort Bed Breakfast Inn SC

Check out Beaufort NC. We did a getaway long weekend there a couple years ago, and my wife had to drag me back into the car. After the lottery fairy knocks on my door, I will live in Beaufort. It's a compact, walking-friendly little water town with lots of history, a neat old cemetery, good restaurants and beautiful scenery. It's a photographer's paradise and one of the most relaxing places I've been in awhile. I'm not sure about the dog thing, but the Pecan Tree Inn is a wonderful old B&B with very reasonable prices. If you go, take me with you please.

Yes and Yes.
Beaufort SC (pronounced bu-fert, like "view" but with a "b") is relatively close to Hilton Head.
Beaufort NC (pronounced bo-fert, like Bo Diddley) is relatively close to Morehead City.

Both are coastal towns, rich in history and natural scenery. IMO, Beaufort NC has done a better job of avoiding tourism corruption, but both have been well discovered.

That had me confused too. In college I went with my Ecology Biology class for a week's field trip to Beaufort. I was sure it was in NC (and it was) but when I became aware of Beaufort SC, I was not sure. Now I know (for sure).

Thanks for the advise everyone! As much as I would love to go to Nashville I think I'm going to be deciding between Beaufort (NC) and Savannah. Both sound amazing. I have googled both and know I definitely want to visit both at some point. Thanks so much!

If you go to Savannah, be sure to head to Tybee Island.
