What are the most accepting towns/cities of northerners in sc? Any within an hour of the coast? Looking for a friendly, and safe community to raise my 3 young kids. Good schools, jobs and things to do. Thanks!!!
After reading many threads about s.c. It doesn't seems very welcoming in general!
It also seems as though if you are not white and christian, then you'll really have a hard time there.
(I am white and am Christian... I'm married to a black man and have mixed kids) so that makes me question the area.
I've Lived In Conway Area For Ten years. Married with two kids. We're trying to sell our house and relocate. I'm originally from murrells inlet, so I have a pretty good take on the area. Our children have had a difficult time making friends, largely because the people here do not associate with people from outside of their church. Religion and church are very significant aspects of culture here. There are no good grocery stores here, so we often have to drive 30 minutes one way to purchase organic products. It takes 30 to 40 minutes to go to the beach. Traffic is horrible. There is a lot of poverty, mostly among african americans and resulting crime. Lots of racism among african Americans and whites. My children are often pergoritavely referred to as "white boy" at school. Reverse racism is bad here. Nothing to do for children. Not a lot of opportunity...jobs are scarce. Pretty much hate it here.
