I have actually looked into the Wilmington area a bit, before I started hearing about Myrtle beach area, and it does seem to be a good fit for us as well. I like that it's a city somewhat near the ocean as well, but less touristy and more like a real city. Probably much easier to find jobs there as well. Really, we will have to go where my husband gets job offers (he does IT and computer security networking) but only if it seems like a good fit for us as well!

I will definitely keep researching it and other areas in the Carolinas to find the best place for my family. Thank you for thinking of me I appreciate the suggestion!

I have moved from San Diego (spring Valley area) to Charleston SC. That was 5 months ago. I love it in SC. So laid back and everyone is very nice. I make more money here than I did in California. I love the people and how nice everyone is. I've only been here for 5 but any time I leave the state to travel a little North I miss it. Best decision I ever made personally. I was born and raised in San Diego and didn't go to Charleston until I moved here. But it was a good decision and I love it.

Dani,

Did you make the move and how are you liking the area? I'm a native San Diegan that moved up to Modesto. It's HORRID hear and I've got my eye on Surfside Beach. You said the hubby was IT and networking. How is that working out? Will likely start a local company when I get out there and having contacts of like mind would be great.

Just FYI - Charleston is very different from this area. Pros/Cons both as with anywhere. Just didnt want you to hear Charleston info. and assume its the same here.

If you are looking for something more similar to San Diego but less expensive, IMO Charleston would be a better choice. If looking for something totally different, that keep researching this area. If you do come here, Surfside is a good choice. At least you would be near the beach, restaurants and activities. Good luck!
