It's amazing how Southern WV is the root cause of most of Morgantown's issues. It's mind boggling really.
Not southern West Virginia, Tim. Some of the politicos from southern West Virginia regularly impede progress here when possible. We'll find out tomorrow if there is another issue to deal with. We're used to it.
Airport director now says that longer extension is being discussed -- to 6600 feet from the original plan of 6200. It will accommodate Big 12 basketball teams. It was in today's dominion post.
If you have read WAJRs article, keep in mind that an enplanement is not an operation. Enplanements are passengers "boarding" a commercial/charter flight and "leaving" the airport. Contrary to WAJRs article, MGW did not lead the state enplanements, but did in operations.
Looks like the Airport Expansion is moving forward. In the article it says there will be a meeting held in June to talk about the whole scope of the project. Also apparently the Air Force Reserve will lay out the plans this year for the expansion and they expect to possibly start construction next spring.
Aren't there only 2 flights a day out of that airport?
Is there demand? Did airlines express interest in flying to Morgantown?
There are a lot of corporate and private flights out of the airport and the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard want to and are going to use the airport and to do that, the airport runway needs to be expanded to handle their planes. It's a great deal for the town and for the University, since this will allow them to fly some of the sports teams (basketball) in and out of Morgantown.
Also, based on the number of flights (not people) it is the busiest airport in WV.
