Just about the only thing we wouldn't be able to handle would be the giant international jets. Of course, they're not going to be coming to an airport like Morgantown anyway.
Large international flights won't be coming to any West Virginia airport. But, apparently Morgantown is going to gear up for small ones.
Bridgeport and Clarksburg can't compete with the economic boom that is happening in the Morgantown area. WVU and the Big 12 wants the runway expanded, as does the military. They need to mind their own business. Airport runway length is also a safety issue.
Of course they are. Clarksburg/Bridgeport is just a terrible place to live
It's a fine place to live, but their political establishment is old guard and obsolete. All they are doing is making themselves look bad locally and sounding sour grapes because Morgantown is assuming its natural place in regional leadership. They need to stop playing that way and get on board to help make great things happen for all of NCWV. Our region, together with the EP, can change the direction of this state for the much better if they will do that. It will just take time to change the negative momentum created by 80 years of southern pork insanity that has kept us in last place.
It will not continue to struggle. There are no designs on making it a major passenger hub, but business plane travel is growing around here on a regular basis, and The University itself will pull in large numbers of flights. Many teams visiting Morgantown land at Pittsburgh, and many of their fans traveling to games here land and stay there too. With the runway extension, those planes can land and takeoff here easily bringing even more business to our city. The city is complementing this with major advertising expenditures promoting local and regional attractions to get more of the tens of thousands of visitors who come here every year to stick around an extra day or two and spend some money.
Morgantown is rapidly accumulating the hotel, restaurant, nightlife, and other amenities to make that happen. This has been the only missing part of the puzzle.
