Well I stated outright that I hadn't, not sure what was confusing about that.

Canada is at least as diverse geographically as the US. IMHO it is also far more beautiful taken as a whole. The Canadian Rockies surpass any other location I've had the privilege to visit.
"at least" is a bit of a stretch.

Look, I never said I wouldn't like to visit, I just stated that visiting some areas of Canada is not high on my priority list because many of them don't vary hugely geographically from adjacent areas in the U.S. I understand that they're different and unique from those places, but not as different as, say, Thailand. Or Germany. Or Mexico.

I know I'd love Vancouver and BC, I just can't get worked up about going there for some reason.

I guess I could of explained it better but I am asking this because IMO Minnesota is identical to Northwestern Ontario/Manitoba. Climate is similar, lots of lakes, wildlife, people are very similar, relatively same accents etc. I go to MN 4-5 times a year and if I didn't know I was in MN I would think I am just in Ontario.

We don't travel to MN to see something different, we go there to buy stuff cheap basically. I kind of wanted to know why you guys come here since to me, there isn't really a reason..(well to go Thunder Bay/Winnipeg). Its more expensive, Minniapolis is much safer than Winnipeg and cleaner. And Thunder Bay(my hometown) is just gross and boring.

Minneapolis isn't safer than Winnipeg. I know the Peg has high crime by Canadian standards, but if it were in the U.S. it would be one of the safest large cities in the nation.

Minneapolis crime rate:

Winnipeg crime rate:
CTV Winnipeg- Highest homicide rate in history - CTV News

They don't call it Murderapolis for nothing.

Some folks still use dial telephones, too... But I was looking at the Camden (N Mpls) News this morning; the Pg 1 article is "Crime rate drops again in N Mpls".

NW Ontario is an endless sea of corn and soybean fields with some deciduous forest mixed in?
I think of Ontario as Pine forest and pristine lakes and Manitoba as larger lakes and wheat fields.

Wanna see Canada - or anywhere else? National Passport Day (http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/pptday/locations/locations_4442.html - broken link) is this Saturday. Go get one! Mine is expired, I intend to bring my partner and her kids downtown, and we'll make an event of it!

Back in the day, a lot of farmers in ND and MN used to go to Manitoba to buy (cheaper) farm equipment. I've been away from the RR valley for awhile so I don't know if this is still true. My family and/or buddies would go to Winnipeg for Jets games when they were in town. (PS: if Winnipeg gets another shot at the NHL, a little marketing in ND and NW Minny wouldn't hurt.)

Without any actual statistics, I think the passport requirement has hurt a lot. Historically, it also depends on the value the american/canadian dollar. I think most would agree goods and services are more expensive in Canada, but when the US dollar is up vs Candian dollar down, folks (at least in NW minny and ND) would go Winnipeg (much closer) for a "big city adventure" vs. Mpls-StP.

I lived in Montana for awhile and would always go to Canada when I was younger - I always treated Alberta as another U.S. state in my mind. These days I can point out the more subtle differences between the two countries (outside of ketchup chips and Matthew Good albums). I think we in the states find Canada to be a relative escape of the economic stress of the times here.

Living in the east coast, I recently road-tripped through the Atlantic provinces (New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia) and found the people to so laid back and kind. I've heard that's to be expected from that side of Canada - but I've got a general feel that that attitude spreads throughout the country. People go there just wanting to feel more apart of a more remote, stress free and beautiful area.
