What has been said about the North side is generally true, however there are decent parts of North. Camden is fairly docile and everything within a few blocks of Vict. Memorial is actually nice and well kempt. There is [i]some[/] silver lining

New article in the paper claiming a large jump in crime in Brooklyn Park area. Some interesting discussion of what factors are behind crime rates that might be food for thought for those of us about to choose a new neighborhood. I was a bit concerned at the mention of single family homes being converted into rentals (and attracting criminals who gravitate to rentals) as the slowing real estate market has prompted property owners to go the rental route in some cities.

Your completely wrong. North minneapolis has the highest crime rate per capita in the state, and it's by far the most dangerous area to be in any time of day/night.

You guys are sounding pretty ignorant right now. Crime in North Minneapolis affects us all. As does the rising crime downtown, uptown, etc, etc.

Don't talk about it, be about it. I'm sure 1/2 of you haven't even been on the Northside. All you know is what you see on WCCO! Why not DO something?!? Fight to get rehabilitation started in North Mpls like they have started in South Mpls.

If that pic was really taken in Mpls, the only place I can think of where it could possibly be is South Mpls, probably north of Franklin. Judging from the parts of the two cars in the photo, it looks pretty dated, too.

That is not a pic of Mpls. It just goes to show that those that have never even BEEN to the north side see things like this and take it as FACT and then rant & rave about how horrible north minneapolis is.

/\ I wish. Those old buildings and brownstones are nice. Also, the jive turkey and 76' Oldsmobile is just nostalgic. That wasn't even taken in Mpls. Even in the area of Franklin, there aren't places like that and there never were. It looks like NY or Phila.
