I agree with it and even people who claim they want to save lifes are doing it for the money.

Yup, that is the difference between people who donate blood and people who donate $$$$$$$$ plasma.

Very few people ( that I know) that donate$$$ plasma will donate blood.

I think it's fair to make this distinction between donating blood and selling plasma. I agree with marmac, it isn't donating if you're getting paid for it.

It sure isn't donating when they are paying you a good price for supplying them with a product they need.
I was going to say that.

I'm a blood donor- it costs me petrol to get to Red Cross, plus lost wages. They give me a cup of coffee and a bisquit as compensation.

PS people also donate plasma through the Red Cross. No one gets paid.

That's not quite accurate. Blood is made up of several components. You lose part of it, but it's the part that's easier to restore quickly. They take out your blood, spin it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma liquid from the cells (mainly red cells), then put the red cells back into you and take the plasma to use. Plasma is mostly water, and your body can replace it in no more than a day or two. When you give whole blood, it takes your bone marrow a few weeks to grow enough new red cells to replace the ones you lost.

Like someone said before, you are compensated for your time, not your plasma. That's what makes it a donation. I have heard of entities receiving gas vouchers to haul in donations of clothing and furniture. Does that mean that they didn't donate? I sure as heck am not going to sit in a stinky chair surrounded by dead beats with a giant needle in my arm for free. You can have my plasma, but my time is worth money

Yup, the value placed on--time-- by the unemployed is amusing.

I used to 'donate' plasma and I haven't been unemployed since I was 14.

Well I suppose but people usually give plasma twice a week and it takes longer then blood, people who donate blood can't do it every week.
