At least here, they take care of the snow. My reasons are 1)Job market- Looking for jobs in the life science, Biotech/pharma field. Minnesota is growing in that area with Medtronic, St jude's, Boston Scientific. However, the Triangle is better when it comes to this field.

2) Colleges- To get in state tuition at a North Carolina University would be a huge benefit. Duke, Wake Forest. Then with us being African american, you have your HBCU'S in North Carolina A & T and North Carolina Central

3) Closer to home- Raleigh would be closer to family in Virginia and Philly. Minnesota is a 20 hour drive.

4)Cost of living- Cost of living is cheaper down south. Let's just hope I can make a high enough salary to make it worth it.

Raleigh seems to be high on quality of life just like the Twin Cities. The main thing I would miss if i do move are shopping- MOA can't be beat. Also we have the best thrift stores. Arc Village is a god send. Also the schools have been good too.
Raleigh-Durham is a very nice part of the country. Best of luck.

First, I don't live in the Twin Cities. However, I do live just outside the extent of the seven-county metro, where the Cities are convenient and easily accessible. I've lived here all my life, save for the early/mid-'90s, when I lived in Duluth and later in the metro's southern suburbs.

Second, I would not move permanently away from here, or Minnesota at all, due to the presence of immediately family here and in the Cities. However, I could see myself splitting my time between my near-the-metro home and another home in another part of the country.

Why? Two main reasons: weather and geography. I dislike the cold and snow of winters, as well as the humidity of summers. And I love the vast, wide-open wildernesses of mountain and desert to be found out West. If I ever split my time between here and elsewhere, with drier summers (they can be hotter, to a point, as long as they're more arid) and much more wild winters. And, of course, nearby vast tracts of empty land for hiking and such - but then, that describes almost everywhere west of the Great Plains.

Note:
This is only a possibility because my children are raised and out of the nest. This is an excellent place to raise kids.

I admit, I was wondering the same. The poster tossed out a question without giving any meaningful purpose or insight...does seem a little trollish. AND he/she hasn’t come back to participate in a discussion.

Add professional sports teams to the list. No professional teams for basketball and football.

In the same vein as Barney the Banker and others before him/her. Which is why I didn't reply to the previous troll.

haven't moved yet. Need to find a job out there first. My wife wants to stay here in Minnesota. But I have to go where the jobs and money are. When it comes to quality of life and reading about that area, it seems to equal Minnesota in that aspect. To me, it's a win win regardless. I do have to say that I think my money would stretch further in Raleigh though. If salaries are equal.
