.... Continued from the other one that was shut down for no apparent reason... I think we can have a safe/fun/mature place to discuss stadium issues/funding/etc...

Are you in favor of a new stadium? Is public funding the only detractor of your interest?

Where do you think it should be built?
-- Current Metrodome Site?
-- Arden Hills, Ramsey County Site?
-- Farmers Market Site near Target Field?

There seems to be a new story about the Stadium everyday. New ideas, new plans, new place, etc. So come here to share stories, discuss feasibility and for news regarding the new Vikings stadium.

I think all of those who are opposed to any state/local participation (user fees, entertainment/hospitality tax, racino funds, etc.) should change their minds so that I can get what I want....edit: oops, I didn't see where you had included "mature" in the discussion requirements, I'll have to think longer.

It's going to get to the point where they're will be absolutely no public funding, and the same naysayers will still complain, as if they have any right to an opinion.

"I don't want no darn stadium to be built with my tax dollars!!!"

--- "But, it's not going to be"

"Oh, really? Arg, I'm still against it!!! Skoolz I tell ya, skoolz is where we need our money to go!!"

--- "But, like I said, no public money. And it's a major investment for the City of MPLS , Hennepin County, and the State of Minnesota"

"Arg! I'm still against it!!"

---"Target Field brought 3.5 million people downtown last year and brought fans from every state and a handful of countries" (Like the Cherry and Spoon, Uptown and the Stone Arch Bridge are capable of brining in 3.5 million visitors)

"So, I still don't want it, I hate the Vikings"

---"Ok, then don't watch them. And when they're in the NFC Championship game, jump off the bandwagon and take off your Shianco jersey"

The last post was shut down because you could NOT be mature and discuss the topic without resorting to name calling and making offensive remarks. The same will happen here if it starts again....

I didn't call anyone names, you must be referring to someone else. I just went back and re-read all my posts. They were all pretty tame.

NFL stadium costs since 1999, current senate bill calls for 1/3 Vikings participation in cost along with giving up naming rights, player tax and tax on luxury suites.

year - team - total cost - pct public contrib - owner

1999 - Cleveland ----- $290M ---- 74.7% - City of Cleveland
2001 - Pittsburgh ----- $358M ---- 78.7% - City of Pittsburgh/Allegheny Co.
2001 - Denver -------- $365M ---- 68.4% - State of Colorado
2002 - Houston ------- $424M ---- 73% --- Harris Co.
2003 - Philadelphia --- $474M ---- 40% --- Philadelphia Eagles
2007 - Arizona -------- $455M ---- 67.7% - State of Arizona
2008 - Indianapolis --- $720M ---- 86% --- State of Indiana
2009 - Dallas ---------- $1.2B (1) - 28% --- City of Arlington
2010 - NY Jets/Giants - $1.6B (1) - 0% ---- State of New Jersey

(1) NFL contributed $150M to Dallas and $300M through a program that no longer exists.

Build it. Build it without cutting any corners. Make it spectacular for Minnesotans, not for others. I think it would be great to have a beautiful indoor venue that all Minnesotans could use. Put it on the Farmers market site where all the transportation will soon be connecting.

If it is paid for exclusively with users fees and private money, I have no objection to building a stadium. I do not want to have any state or local tax money go towards it. We Minneapolis residents are already paying towards a number of stadium and arena projects. No more. Let's see our legislators and governor close the budget gap before they spend money on this project. Sales tax? Put it to a vote.

I believe "you" was used in the general sense. Keep it civil, that's all. No name calling, no profanity. Play nice.

If the politicians try to use a "temporary" tax to pay for it, don't believe them. They did that in Seattle to build a stadium that the voters voted against, now the "temporary" tax has expired and the politicians extended it to pay for a convention center.

I'd say build it because I want to see the Vikings stay in Minnesota...but it's not my money (at least not today) that will be spent on it regardless of how it's paid for.
