Yes, but I think southeastern is more accurate. Miami is pretty much its own animal.

Culturally it is not southern. Only geographically.

The point is that one race isn't taking over HOuston nor Dallas.. Miami is a different story your going to find more Latin culture than southern.. You will find more southern culture in Houston and Dallas than u will Miami...

That's why we said geographically it's a southern city.. Culturally it's not.. Trust I grew up in Miami all my life. That's why alot of the southern blacks that are there are leaving... Because Latin culture has taken over that city.... You can't say French has taken over New Orleans.. You can't say Nigerians have taken over Houston. I bet I can find more southern traits in new Orleans and Houston than I can Miami and that's a fact...

You miss what I said it's 2010. What on earth does Raleigh and New Orleans have in common for Miami not to be the south?

New Orleans is very unique, but all other southern cities have in common things like the Southern accent, sweet tea, barbecue, etc..

Raleigh, New Orleans and Dallas have nothing in common what is a southern culture trait? The idea is southern culture is broadly culture that in a geographical southern city. For instance southern food can be anything from Texmex to Creole to North Carolina BBQ, Miami has Cuban food ok welcome to the non monolithic party that is the south.

Dallas and Houston do indeed offer more than Southern culture, but the point is that they do have Southern culture. Miami has NO southern culture. Outside of the Florida Heartland, there is not much southern culture south of Orlando.

I ask you this too. What on earth does Raleigh and New Orleans have in common for Miami not to be the south?

The Ozark culture in Arkansas is nothing like the Gullah Culture in Georgia and South Carolina, but yet their both geographically in the south so their both consider southern culture. What makes Miami any different than from a region that already non monolithic.

Have you even been to half the cities mentioned? In Houston you're much more likely to hear various asian accents than "the southern accent" which arguably isn't a single accent shared by multiple southern cities to begin with. I don't even know why you would include sweet tea and barbecue because it's not like sweet tea is the beverage of choice all over the south and barbecue varies a lot from place to place and is still just one of many cultural foods offered in a southern city.

Florida seems to get some kind of immunity from the NE's stereotypes of the south, but really most of the large cities are going to have huge transplant populations and neutral accents.

My point is that the south isn't some completely foreign culture, nor is the stereotypical culture shared much between the big cities there. Miami is unique, but that's really not saying anything. The south of today is definitely defined by geography, and Miami is definitely in the south.
