Probably nobody remembers this thing, but at the "Kendall indian hammocks" park on sw 107'th avenue and between sunset and kendall drive sits the old building deterriorating along with the old shop where fire equipment was being repaired and stored. I noticed that the service facility is abandoned and torn apart inside, but the old hospital sits covered in vines and collapsing in the Florida weather. There's a rumor that everything there is going to be demolished. I remember the place as a kid, when we would go to the dump and I had sneaked into that old building sometime in the 80's. Is anyone else aware of the history and future of this site?

It's never a good sign when they drop off one of these.

I do not know the actual date of construction, but a friend of our family had told us stories about it being built during the depression. The date I was told was 1937. In my old topographical maps it is shown in both 1947 and in 1939. It may be much older. When it was in better shape it had wooden double-hung windows and a neat looking wooden front door. In the 80's it was abandoned before the dump was moved and the park expanded. I sneaked in there sometime in the late 80's and remember that it looked pretty good except for a few minor roof leaks. There was even an antique gas pump that was probably installed in the 50's when the repair shop was built. For some reason I cannot find the old article about that place.

I am searching for an old Hospital that sat or still sits art 162 NE 49th street in Miami. It is called Edgewater Hospital, and could have been around in the 30's and 40's. My husband was born there in 1947. Could this be the same building?

I want to say no. This particular hospital is in Kendall, which is a completely different area of Miami.

This is a different place, it is the last remaining building of the old indigent hospital complex for mostly migrant workers. The Baptist hospital was for the more standard paying customers, but this was something set up by the county for the poorer folk. The surviving building is the old nurse's building as most of the other buildings were wood frame structures that did not hold up. While the other buildings were demolished, it seems like the Miami-Dade office of historical preservation is aware of this place and has surveyed it many years ago. The whole site has a lot of history and hopefully this old building can be rebuilt someday. It would make a very nice set of park offices or a mini-museum of Kendall history. The way it has been neglected it's amazing there is still more than a shell left.
