Last month they put a new taller fence around the old building at the park. It is still decaying but they pulled some of the vines off. You can now easily see it from 107 ave .

I too, was born in Edgewater Hospital. Dr. Thompson delivered me in October of 1950. Unfortunately, my records could not be found. Anyone with a similar situation should reply.

Also, the physician that delivered me was Harold Edmunds whose address was 7501 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, FL. These two addresses are very close to each other, so I tend to believe that Edgewater Hospital was once located on 81st Street or, could there have been more than one hospital location, doubtful. It's been interesting to hear from others who were born at the same hospital, never really gave it any thought until today.
I wish I knew where the birth records went at Edgewater Hospital. I was born ther in October of 1950 but have no record of it. If anyone knows how to get birth records from the hospital please reply.

Librarian at Miami Dade Library showed me a book --Dade County Hospitals 1896 to 1996
Edgewater was known by different names

New Gowdy Hospital 1929 to 1930 (DR FA Gowdy built it)
Biltmore Hospital 1931 to 1935
Edgewater H. 1936 to 1955
Bel Aire Hospital 1956 to 1958
Community Hospital 1959 to 1971

Anybody looking for records should try the State Board of Health (or local) and maybe under all of these names.

I was born in edgewater hospital in1945 as was my sister in1946. We were both adopted. I think it must have specialized in unwed mothers. According to my deceased father, the hospital burned down. I think this line is discussing two different places. The hospital was in the northern part of Miami. I don't know where the records went and Florida is in the dark ages and does not allow access to original birth certificates.
