Hey
I've spent a good deal of time in LA but Ive never been to Miami, but always hear people compare these 2 cities. What can you tell me about Miami and such? Ive seen Miami on tv and they make it seem all glitz and glamour just like LA, but I know thats not reality. Fill me in!

Default Miami vs LA

Well I have never been to LA, but have many friends of my friends, have lived in both. Both are similar that they are big cities with incredible clubs, outdoor cafes & great dining. However there is certainly not a huge movie industry here, although it has been growing. Celebrities do love Miami & many have second homes in Miami Beach.

The big difference is that it not image-conscious as LA. When you go to a club you dress up, however day to day its more of a flip flops & shorts island casual atmosphere. People in Miami overall are not as gym or plastic surgeon obsessed as I have heard LA is. Also the Latin Culture heavily influences every part of Miami Life, specifically Cuban. Miami is more like visiting a Foreign Country, than a US City. Certainly give our International Metropolis a try!

I've lived in both. No comparison. LA is much better. The only advantage Miami has over LA is it stays warmer in the winter and there's no earthquakes.

LA has over Miami:
1) Better looking women
2) more to do
3) close to San Diego
4) Close to Vegas
5) hardly ever rains.
6) not as humid
7) people speak english for the most part

wall st kid...lol Sorry to hear that the women in Miami did not meat your appetite, did you try South Beach, FL? There are models in South Beach and lots of good looking peope. We need to wear our bikinis all year long. We also have casinos here, like Hard Rock. O and by the way I am fluent in English and my kids are learning a second language -spanish, Most people speak english, spanish, protuguese and creole too. We have no earthquakes, but we have hurricanes to worry about. Enjoyed your post

I agree on points # 2- 6 , can argue on point # 7 as I was in Los Angeles about two months ago and I heard about as much Spanish as I do in Miami only with Mexican accents . You are way off on # 1 , I travel to Los Angeles frequently and there is no place even close to South Beach there for quantities of good looking women !!

There are beautiful women in LA , like in NYC and Dallas , TX but South Florida and especially Miami/ Ft.lauderdale are tops !!

Why do you think so many LA celebs , like actors and rap artists fly from the West Coast to party on South Beach on the weekends ... it certainly ain't for the good Kosher food on Miami Beach !!

See that is the sad part , people judge all of Florida by Miami . Go to North Florida ... Jacksonville , Daytona Beach , Gainesville , Tallahasee , Panama City Beach and many other smaller cities in that area and you will find super nice down to earth people . I would even include the West Coast Tampa / St. Pete , Clearwater Beach and Sarasota as areas with much , much nicer people and more civilized than Miami . These areas are another world from South Florida and you feel like you are in a different state when there .

Cixel , a friend of mine from Valencia , California was miserable in Miami and after four years took an IT position in Clearwater and is very happy , mainly because he says it reminds him of California !!

I live in San Diego and I have to say that I did not like Miami. First of all, the airport is on the bad side of appaling. Second, the landscape is just flat! Flat, flat, flat, flat: not very attractive. I couldn't get over that point. Third, the humidity and heat is beyond oppresive. How could anybody enjoy that? You walk outside and the air is literally sucked out of you. It feels like you're walking in soup....yuck! Yet people seemed similar to SoCal: Ostentatious, somewhat rude, shallow, good looking and abusing all sorts of legal and illegal substances.

The bugs are pretty bad. They look like mutant creatures from Mars. Awful.

Did I mention the opressive heat? It's not opressive, it can't even be described. Appaling doesn't do it justice.

I wasn't too impressed....I think I'll stay here in San Diego.
