ok so i went to lunch today and overheard another white american lady talking to the older american waitress (the only non-latino in the restaurant) telling her that she was done with miami and moving north to broward or palm beach. ive heard this story so many times before its normal. what id like to do though is speculate.

how do we see the future of miami unfolding? clearly the demographic is going to be almost completely latino/ caribbean black and southern black. we can accept that as fact.
its just going to be really odd that we'll have an american city where the primary demographic in the country will be an extreme minority. really odd.
its already odd that we have an american city where most of the residents dont consider themselves americans.

following the trend out, where do we see miami in 10 years and then 20 years?

will it be like puerto rico where there are no jobs and residents will have to move elsewhere to big cities? will cuba open up and industry bloom here supplying things to the island? will it become a latin detroit? will it be like dubai? a big city full of buildings with no residents due to no jobs?

hold back any anger you may have, hold back your racism.
the city is what it is. nothing is going to change it.

id be interested to discuss this and see where you guys think its heading. i would almost prefer if they made spanish an official language in miami just so we wouldnt have to argue about it anymore and it would force me to adapt and learn it.

Miami will be mostly a Central American city. Cubans will evolve into Americans, and Caribbean Blacks will be the new African Americans. South American population will only decrease more and more. The ones that are already here will procreate "Normal" Americans and that will be the end of the South American population.

yeah but it seems that the descendants who call themselves americans dont stick around. they move to other US cities for both reasons of less humid climates or better opportunities. the ones who do stay still claim allegiance to their parent's country of origin. ive known plenty of people like that who have moved.

True, the new American generation will most likely move. As result, Miami will be Central American and Black. BUt by then, most of us will be underground or old.

They seem to be building more and more Condominiums(Brickell Citi Centre) and hotel in the Brickell area with possibly Miami World Center in the Central Business District, so that growth is a positive factor.
It looks like Miami will be a city where people will be living on top of one another, because land is scarce as it has been developed all the way to the Everglades, so people will be living in low-rise,mid-rise and high-rise condominiums, older neighborhood houses will be razed to make way for the new condos.

We may look like a smaller version of Sao Paulo,Brazil in 50 years unless the Second Coming of the Lord doesn't come first.

Pal, at least in the Cuban-American community that’s not happening. Yes, I see a lot of amusing arguments between people who never has set foot in the island but at the end of the day, they consider themselves American at heart. Now, in the West Coast, you are dealing with a disaster waiting to happen. Too much nationalism from you know where, too much open wounded due to some war back in the 1840s, too much political rhetoric for the Latin movement, too much Univision.

The Miami natives are moving out but to different neighborhoods or to better areas in South Florida. I believe this is called social mobility. You can’t expect the children of a Hialeah ref would stay in Hialeah after getting a Bachelor Degree. The same has happened to prior immigrant groups.

The future of Miami, better and brighter but more crowded unless we decide to f!@up the Everglades.

Nah, it all depends on how Latin America moves. If it goes the good path and I hope they do, you will see Miami settling and becoming more americanized. It all depends on Latin America. I see it like the Midweast. When the german migration stopped the whole place gave birth to a lot of American rednecks. In a good way.
