Very true, regardless of what some tv shows depict.. With that said, I imagine you can get some good southern, country cooking up there.

Oh come on. The OP is no longer a member, but I want to say this, as someone very familiar with Louisiana in general and that area in particular. The OP will find great southern food there, and some good Cajun food. There are some wealthy enclaves in Monroe but she will need to immerse herself in the college culture most likely. Many people in Louisiana in general and in Monroe in particular really do love boating, fishing, and drinking beer. And that's OK too.

We lived in Louisiana for almost 40 years. The northern part of the state is very different from the southern part of the state in many ways. These differences include food, culture, primary religion, accent..
