Would you agree 12k yr is the new high/low tax line for a decent house in a decent town barring any exemptions?

I voted under but not by much. Last year I paid $10,600. My STAR 'discount' amounts to $1,400 so technically my taxes are $12,000. I'm currently selling my house and legalizing some stuff so the next owner's tax bill will likely be increased. I live in a nice house in New Hyde Park. It's not worth paying this amount so I'm moving next month. There are many reasons for my move, not just taxes, but the taxes are definitely a factor. So, yes, I sadly think $12,000/year is becoming the norm for a typical tax bill.

You pay for it in one way or another. My friend in Florida pays no state income tax, and only 3K a year in property taxes..but has to pay 11K a year to send his kids to private schools so they dont go to schools in trailers!

sounds about right actually... we're looking for a 4bed/2bath in a good SD in Nassau and we'd be "relieved" to see 12k... get surprised if it's under.

Parents in a Plainview split 3bed/1.5 bath is approaching 12k... up and up every year.

I was just looking up some houses in areas with poor school districts, and I just can't believe a 200k 3br/1ba old ranch in roosevelt pays $7676/yr in property taxes! Just insane!

Just had mine reduced from $13,000 to $10,500. I still think $10,000 is the line.
