Why not include STAR? Its just a scam anyway. Just shifting #'s around. Whatever the STAR reduction is, the same if not more was taken away from your school district form state aid and your school district portion went up by that amount. All politics....
I'm paying $8700 in Centereach (house is 1700sqft, 1/2 arce, 1997). I know that it'll be above 9k next year - ugh. I hate it. Property taxes will be worse than rent!
That sounds about right for the area.
Centereach has plenty of retail to keep the taxes in line.
Wow that's an eyeopener.Where in Queens? Luxury building I hope?
Seems like LI is becoming the catch basin for those who cant afford NYC these days.
Remember when moving out to LI meant you had money?
Crooks
NYC is pricey, but the suburbs will always draw families. A lot of people grow up on LI, live in the city after college and then come back here when they have kids (or start thinking about having them)...it's what they know and deep down inside the idea of raising kids in the city is scary to them!

No! Regular old 6 story brick building in Kew Gardens. When we bought 5 yrs ago the maintenance was $700 a month. I guess I was thinking of your white flight article when I mentioned this. Plus there were a million other things we got nickled and dimed on- annual assessment, fees for having an air conditioner ($75 per unit!), holiday tips for staff, etc. it just added up and for a family of 4, it makes more sense for us to pay the 1k a month and get good schools than to pay for school on top of the 1k a month.

I'm in Fort Salonga, Town of Huntington. 5BR house, although not a large one, on .33 acres. $8400 before STAR. I am feeling very lucky right now!
