Hi guys! Bought a new house in Commack on the main road which my husband really wanted but i’m not too happy with it as I have three small kids. Anyone else live on a main road? What are the pros and cons?

I wouldn't be comfortable living on a main road especially with kids. Just the thought of the ball running into the streets and one of my kids running after it would keep me up at night. Not trying to scare you OP but for me this would absolutely be a deal breaker. Is this Indian Head Rd?

I think the horse that left the barn for pros and cons. You need to ask what protective and preventive measures should you take. I would start with fencing in the lot. I would put door latches up high so the children can't reach them. This may seem drastic but depending up the ages of the children and your ability to be on top of them you can alarm the doors so in the event they were able to open them you would hear it.

I spent a good part of my childhood living on a busy road.
I’m still here. Some fencing maybe, and attentive parents and all will be well.
I’d be more worried if the house was located in one of those areas of the road where it’d more likely to have some drunk end up in your living room.

If your property is on the corner off a main road, its susceptible to car crashes into your property. Don't let the kids play in the front.

I've always wanted to live in a mental health house. Where can I find them and who goes there?

There aren't any pros I can think of. The cons are obvious.

Fence in your backyard. If your kids can't be trusted for whatever reason to not leave out the front door (or whatever door gives access to the front of the house) then as nuts said. put some security where they can't reach it, or alarm the doors (like with an alarm people use when they have a pool if you don't have a whole house alarm).

For most kids locking the front door will be enough.
